Visconti Michelangelo...

So excited! :cloud9:

I stopped into Paradise Pen yesterday and test drove a Michelangelo. The way it wrote... pure bliss.

They had it only with the silver accents, and for the sake of uniqueness, I've a hankering for the rose gold trim, but both are very beautiful (they had the rollerball with the bronze.) She mentioned to me how Dante had explained the time and effort they put into the process to create a truly saturated black barrel; very interesting.

My pen is now on order and should arrive in-store in a week or two! :clap1:

I am rather envious! I have been eyeing (coveting, drooling) for a Michelangelo pen in Black/Bronze since the moment I saw one.

Please post pictures when you get a chance!!

I will for sure! I've been saving up a little cash, and my hubby is going to kick in the rest (about half) as an anniversary present. :D

It's my holy grail pen. ;)

I got the black Michelangelo at a pen store in Chicago. Unfortunately it was sold without a converter, which I didn't notice till I was at the airport. I need to go to my local pen store, with the Michelangelo to get the correct converter. I do like the bronze/rose gold trim. This FP also takes the cabochons, initial discs, and other My Pen System Toppers.

Oooh, thanks for that heads up! I use converters almost exclusively to cartridges, so will make sure I walk out of the store properly equipped. ;)

I have a Michelangelo in black, it's a lovely pen and writes beautifully. I have the broad nib which lays down a lovely wet and wide line. It does seem to go through a great deal of ink very quickly, but it's a joy to use and is very pretty to look at.

Here are some pictures as no thread about a Visconti is complete without them (taken on my phone - sorry about the quality...)

Lusting after the Michelangelo in black/bronze. Wanting a representative for my first Visconti as well. This one may be it. Thanks for sharing your pen! :cloud9:

  • 9 months later...

Just a quick warning, and this might not happen to every Michelangelo, but the cap ring fell off of mine. Luckily at happened at home. Tried to make sure I got it back securely. Oh and bad luck. I had it out on the patio and somehow let it fall which caused a tiny chip at the top where the Visconti topper is.

Come to think of it, that probably happened before the ring fell off.

The Michelangelo has that cool clip that opens wide for a clip. And to Skoff, your photos look fine to me, and really show off what great handwriting you have as well as what a nice job your Michelangelo does.

Oh I did! (I didn't post pictures here as the ones provided above were so nice and superior to my photos. ;-) And so happy has it made me that I acquired its fraternal twin several weeks lol!

To me, it has the ideal proportion, heft, balance and flow for how I write. Couldn't ask for a better tactile experience.

I know I'm gushing but I was using one all day today, and the honeymoon continues lol!

I have a blue Michelangelo on order from Susanna. It sounds like it has the same body as the current Van Gogh with a palladium nib. Can't wait :)

Also the same body as the Unita D'italia (Unity of Italy) in a similar black. The chrome metal work has red, white and green stripes.

Supposed to come with a 23K Palladium nib but mine has a 14K gold.

sinistral hypergraphica - a slurry of ink

Another Visconti addict is born. A B nibbed Pericles was my gateway pen. Oh for my lost income...

"Gateway pen"... yes, that is the perfect term. What a delicious vice, however.

So true, it is hard to stop. My first fountain pen was a Waterman, then years went by. My brother got me back into buying them. Lamy is so easy to buy because it seems reasonably priced in the fountain pen category. I have 3 Visconti fountain pens, and am very happy with them. The Homo Sapiens was my first Visconti, so holds a special place of interest for that as well as its use of volcanic material from Mt. Etna.

But not only are the pens addictive, next comes the ink and the paper.

Oh well, the fountain pens lead us to the Fountain Pen Network, and we find ourselves in a wonderful community.

Llewellyn, I hope you enjoy your blue Michelangelo. Susanna is always nice to answer questions, and the service is first rate.

Hehe. so true. My gateway pen was a Van Gogh Starry Night. Of course, I was only going to have one fountain pen!!

Huh, famous last words!!! So here I am 15 months later with a fine collection of nine Visconti's (and my Michelangelo in the pipeline) with room for five more in my pen box. I decided to concentrate only on Visconti to try and keep things under some sort of control.

I have plans for those spots to be filled with further examples from the Van Gogh series as they are released, but then again who knows how my plans might evolve.

And I agree with you about Susanna - always great service. Her and Marco at Novelli are my first choices for my Visconti's.

Oh, man... I should get out of this forum while there's still time (and money in my bank account!).
I don't have any Visconti pens. I've been lusting after them for a while now, though. Basically, Michelangelo is the one that I truly want, but I feel reluctant to buy a 300 EUR pen as my first pen from a given brand...
And then there's my flock of Pelikans, which is steadily growing and eating up a sizable chunk of my income in the process...

Not to make things more tempting but... as a first pen from an untried manufacturer, you could hardly do better than a Michelangelo. It's a low-risk, high-reward proposition. :D
