Original Crown Mill (Cotton And Vellum) - Thoughts?

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the Original Crown Mill papers, particularly Cotton and Vellum?

I recently bought some 'bog standard' correspondence cards from OCM and although the paper looked gorgeous, it was a very dry surface. (At least drying times were quick  )

Ideally, I'm after a fairly wet surface that looks gorgeous, and is slightly textured.

Thanks in advance!

I've just ordered some Vellum from Cult Pens, hopefully it will be arriving today so I'll post my thoughts about it this evening while I'm writing letters.

Ok, I've shoved the kids off in the general direction of their rooms so I can write in peace :roflmho:

I've got the Original Crown Mill in Vellum, in the cream colour.

It's a really lovely paper - the merest hint of ghosting on the other side, and I'm using a wet Diamine ink. It's not particularly textured, I like paper very smooth anyway so that's a plus for me.

It's thin enough for you to see a line guide through, which they have helpfully provided.

To be honest I'm not entirely sure what you mean by wet/dry surface (I'm still a newb) but as I said with the wet ink it's lovely. It's also managed to bring up some lovely shading, which improves the ink.

I hope that was helpful - I love it and I'm definitely getting more. :cloud9:

Very helpful, thanks! :vbg:

I'm a newbie too, so I know the feeling - not sure if I used the right terminology, but what I meant was that the pen dragged a bit on the paper, and it made my M nib behave more towards F than I like. It may just be the transition from smooth paper to laid though, I don't know...

From the pics I've seen on Google, the cream vellum looks delicious - if the writing is as good as you say, I might be able to convince myself to forego the texture criterion! The colour seems to work very well with blues/purples, bringing out great colours in the shading, from what I've seen.

I feel a visit to my local pen shop coming on, once my ink delivery has arrived!

I had a few samples sent to me by a company over here in the US, and while the paper was ok, the notecard was far too rough in my estimation for a fine nib, which is pretty much all I use.

The Crown Mill paper itself looks marvelous, but for overall writing satisfaction, I'll stick with the G. Lalo and the ever present backup, Triomphe...

Opinions vary, of course, but I would strongly suggest seeing if you can try a sample sheet beforehand, with the pens you use most.

I'd definitely agree with what you said re the notecards. I haven't tried them with a fine nib, but they weren't a good pairing with my M.

I've read good things about G Lalo (and Triomphe!) - one of the main reasons for investigating OCM is that my local pen shop is a stockist - I'm lazy at heart!

Though G Lalo's stuff does look beautiful. :puddle:

I'll try some samples as you say - that's the only real way of knowing what I'll get on with!

I have used the pure cotton in the gold lettered box. It is such a luxurious looking and feeling paper. Perfect for a BBB juicy nib like on my Pelikan M1000

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

It certainly looks luxurious from what I've seen! Would you say it writes more drily than other papers?
