Noisy Nib?

a singing nib is often the result of nib grinding followed by too much polishing

I read this somewhere possibly on Richard Binder's site

As Old Salt says, keep using it will stop.

I'm no expert but very likely the grinding/polishing action creates an imperfection in the tip surface that when the nib is used sends it into resonation.

Use gradually smooths out the imperfection and the squeaking stops

You can always try to out-sing your nib. I had an Omas vintage nib that sang for a while. Sometimes we sang together. Recently it stopped singing for good. Perhaps my singing was better. I can't tell, because that nib only sang, it didn't talk. :)

Thank you for the replies.

I have a noisy Pelikan m600 F nib. It's aligned, I even re-aligned myself. It's not scratchy at all, however it makes sound on the paper, which I believe is the "singing" you all have mentioned. I was planning to replace the nib, or use micromesh to smoothen it out, but for the time being I'll keep using it then.

Approximately how long did it take for you to the nib to stop singing?
