Thank you for your comment, Daniellem. I think I got to buy a copy of Lohan book. Keep up drawing, not a day without some scratch lines. The portrait of my son with pencil.

Very cool!

Finally, something out of a Lohan book, with a fountain pen! Pardon the bad photo.

Thanks! The pen showed up a LOT better through the view-finder than the actual photo, lol.

You've all been busy with great stuff! That dandelion came out fine with the stippling, welty. That is hard to do. Glad to have another person working on Lohan's book.

But I need to try a photograph like suexilin. It's really lovely. Why am I aftraid of anything but copying?

notbob, you have inspired me to get out my one pilot parallel pen and play with it. Just love that fish. You are so creative. Hope you'll keep sharing more.

Sailor Kenshin, very nice with the Lohan picture. I'm going to give it a go soon. Candidvm, I love your drawings, especially the one of your son. Thank you all. Really inspiring to see all the creativity.

Will post drawings soon.

Question: Has anyone bought any of the newly re-issued Lohan books? Sketching the countryside or Pen and Ink drawing?

I put it in my Wish List. The Landscape book has an easy-to-understand section on one and two-point perspective (which is something I could use!)

daniellem and muldi, yer making me blush. Now cut that out. ;)

Sailor, I love your bullet?/top? thingie hanging on the wall. Awesome collection of textures, all excellently executed. BTW, what the heck is that thing?

candidvm, I don't know what yer elephant is growing?/chewing?/manifesting? up near its head region, but I keep returning to look at it. That's gotta mean something. ;)

Sailor Kenshin, the texture you got in your drawing looks great! And Candidvn, I love the puppy -- the wash really works well there, you can almost feel the soft puppy fur! :)

Muldi, "Sketching the Countryside" came in the mail a few days ago. I haven't had the time to do more than just scan it, but I'm really happy that I ordered it. There is a ton of great instruction in there, and a nice variety in both the subjects and how things are handled. I'm really hoping I'll get some time to just sit down with that book, my pens and a notebook and sketch sometime soon.

"Pen and Ink Drawing" is a reissue of Lohan's "Pen and Ink Themes" which is a book I already had in my library. It is less explicitly instructional, although it does have a lot of useful information not to mention a variety of really excellent pen and ink drawings to study. It feels more like a conversation, really -- the author talks about where to find source material and how he handled the many drawings showcased in the book. So even though it's not really a "how to", it's definitely a great resource. I think I am officially a Lohan fangirl.

It's so inspiring to see all the fantastic drawings that have been posted here!

  • 2 weeks later...

In Vietnam I can't find any waterproof ink for my fountain pens. I have to use pigment liner instead. I have to ship some inks from Amazon. Could you pls suggest me what kind of ink should I buy?

You should never use India ink in fountain pens. I'm sure someone here will tell you what ink is best to work with color wash drawings, but since that's not a concern of mine...although the only REALLY 'waterproof' ink I use is Noodler's Bad Green Gator. It's a dark dark green at full strength.
