Yes you're right, I bought the Pilot black ink from the same seller. I use it with the Pilot Metropolitan and I think it's nice. Too bad they only have black ink.

thank you for the reply! i just bought my first fountain pen which is jinhao 126 with fine nib from Lazada, I think it was pretty cheap and because i like the slim design, i just bought it right away. I already used this for almost a week but this pen gives lines that too big for me. I heard that the japanese fountain pens have smaller nib. So i would buy Pilot MR soon, hopefully this pen can handle my small handwriting

 

What kind of paper do you guys use? I use a normal textbook but you kind of see through the writing on the other side of the page. it makes me to think to write with fountain pen

oh just to make you sure the seller in tokopedia only sell pilot mr in M, i still not use my pilot mr because it's in M nib, i think it's wide enough to my like of f writing. but, i am not so sure though.

if you want the small line then i suggest you to buy platinum preppy for 0.3 nib (f) it write slightly thinner than usual f nib, i am using this pen right now filled with waterman harmounious green. i flushed all the black ink in it's cartridge and filled with waterman since i already have a pen with black ink haha

I just received jinhao x450 this morning, which I ordered last month. I think it's pretty heavy, heavier than my jinhao 250. But when the cap posts, it is more balance than the 250.

I'm waiting for the pilot MR with the animal prints on it, hope the seller from tokopedia will have it soon

I had to purchase it through an online seller who ordered it directly from Japan, but boy, it just arrived today after like 2 weeks from the date of my order. For now I am filling the preppy with a cheap ink from faber castell ink (15 k for 6 small cartridges, no kidding) but maybe I will try the blue black that came with the pen later.

Oh my, i just realized about the nib too. if the seller only sells it in M, i dont think i want to buy it anymore. im afraid that it was too broad for my handwriting. i read many reviewer said that platinum preppy is one of the best beginner fountain pen. however, the design of preppy is a bit...... you know.

well, i am based in Batam, bought the preppy at Singapore for $5 and by the same time bought 4 bottled of Pelikan 4001 ink haha.

what nib size is the preppy? mine 0,3 (F nib) and i think it write the same size as the kakuno. maybe because different ink.

haha yeah i feel about it. right now i just focused to buy Lamy AL-star nib for next month in singapore

yeah, the preppy design feel cheap! haha i cleaned the paint writing from the body so now it's all clear body like a demonstrator pen. next try is going to make an eyedropper to it after i bought the O ring and silicone grease. can't wait to use some bright color in preppy.

 

it's possible to change the kakuno nib to pilot mr, just pull it out and you can swap it.

i am sure that some big gramedia store sell lamy too, GI or TA maybe, read it at their facebook page.

this two day i feel bad writing with Pearl River black ink, it was hard to start,used with sheaffer imperial ii with f nib and it's dry too fast, just too fast, after some writing and break for about 30second - 1 min the pen won't write, the ink dried.

today i filled the ink to parker 45 with m nib, though it will be get a wet pen so the ink will not dry that fast, the same thing happened. it's just too fast.

i don't think i will use it anymore haha

Hello, a fountain pen newbie here. Just got a kakuno and preppy in fine nib and a lamy safari in medium nib from my recent trip to singapore. Gotta say that lamy really disappoint me because of the slight scratchiness considering I get it for three times of the kakuno price which is the best writer imp out of those three. I guess I'll try pilot mtero in medium next time , hope it won't disappoint me like the safari

but since you said that the f nib in kakuno and preppy give a better smoothness i can say that you safari nib is misalignment. why don't you try to repair?

Now that I've been using the pens for several days, I take my statement back: Pilot Kakuno is amazing! I suppose the thinner line before was because of its first time usage. After using it for a while, I suppose Pilot Kakuno's F nib and Pilot Preppy 0.3 are both good. I will try comparing it tomorrow because I'm drying the Preppy as I wanna use the original ink that came with the pen.

You can check it out in Gramedia Matraman or Gramedia Grand Indonesia. Oh yeah, do check whether the pens can use converters or not. Ah, that is why you had a lot of options to buy. I have not found any offline seller who sells preppy here for now, but I did see the Lamy fountain pens are sold in Gramedia Matraman. Quite expensive though, with the cheapest around 450 k or something.

 

I do think the line by Preppy is good and it's quite thick so that it still sells as "fountain pen"!

btw, there are some sellers in bukalapak who sell Hero Fountain Pen in three nibs for around 180k - 210 k. What do you guys think about that? The model that being sold is a replica of Lamy Safari.

I just remembered that I also got a Daiso fountain pen and honestly it's the smoothest writer amongst my recent acquisition. It sure doesnt feel cheap with the aluminium body which got some heft to it compared the other plastic pens. I really recommend it for people who want to try a fountain pen without breaking the bank at all ( it's only $2 for god sake). Another reminder that the Daiso fp is a really wet writer. I don't know the nib is misaligned or anything but the smootheness really depends on the angle I'm holding, making it really hard to use and even when it's writes smoothly, somehow writting with it make me feels like I'm writting with marker orz, it's ironic how I like the $2 Daiso pen better than the Safari when I can get 20 Daiso pens with a Lamy Safari lol. Maybe you should let me try your Safari M nib About the safari nib, Lamy Indonesia is actually selling it too for 180k for the steel version and 210k for the black version

I must say that I like Kakuno a lot, it produces a really fine line smoothly, and the smiley face nib are pretty cute too, the problem now is finding the con-50 coverter or pilot cartridge with a decent shipping cost, considering no one is selling either of those in Indonesia. I'm still interested in Metro though since I'm pretty curious about how the Pilot M nib writes

i really interested at pilot mr retro pop though. never know that there is many kind of pilot mr . but i dont think i can buy it from massdrop because i dont have credit card (college student here). i dont think i have any courage to borrow it from my dad , too many question have to be answered if that happen. it looks like i dont have many choices here. i can only buy it offline or online which based in Indonesia.

Now that I've been using the pens for several days, I take my statement back: Pilot Kakuno is amazing! I suppose the thinner line before was because of its first time usage. After using it for a while, I suppose Pilot Kakuno's F nib and Pilot Preppy 0.3 are both good. I will try comparing it tomorrow because I'm drying the Preppy as I wanna use the original ink that came with the pen.

I've tried ordering from Massdrop, they arrived in Indonesia in 2 weeks or so (after ordering date, so in the links above, around early March). And since fountain pen is an customs tax exempt items, the customs won't hold the your pens (and inks too!) for too long either.

 

For Parker, you can order a classic Parker Vector or Sheaffer something (I forgot the name, haha). Both cost around 250k or something. You can check it out in Gramedia Matraman or Gramedia Grand Indonesia. Oh yeah, do check whether the pens can use converters or not. If I am not mistaken, the cheapest series of Sheaffer only use cartridges.

 

 

Ah, that is why you had a lot of options to buy. I have not found any offline seller who sells preppy here for now, but I did see the Lamy fountain pens are sold in Gramedia Matraman. Quite expensive though, with the cheapest around 450 k or something.

 

I do think the line by Preppy is good and it's quite thick so that it still sells as "fountain pen"!

How do you like the Pilot Kakuno? If it fits you just fine, I suppose you will find the Pliot Metropolitan in Medium to be too wide for your writing.

 

btw, there are some sellers in bukalapak who sell Hero Fountain Pen in three nibs for around 180k - 210 k. What do you guys think about that? The model that being sold is a replica of Lamy Safari.

i am not sure but i think there is a lot of people sell sheaffer fountain pen in here, just like parker.

about hero, it's a great idea to give 3 nib for one pen i heard about this pen compared to the safari they are way better but if you never feel the safari then i think it's good so you don't need to compare it, recently i also looked to wing sung and jinhao replica of safari, some people said that chinese pen writes better than western pen, i found that too in my old hero pens.

 

I just remembered that I also got a Daiso fountain pen and honestly it's the smoothest writer amongst my recent acquisition. It sure doesnt feel cheap with the aluminium body which got some heft to it compared the other plastic pens. I really recommend it for people who want to try a fountain pen without breaking the bank at all ( it's only $2 for god sake). Another reminder that the Daiso fp is a really wet writer. I don't know the nib is misaligned or anything but the smootheness really depends on the angle I'm holding, making it really hard to use and even when it's writes smoothly, somehow writting with it make me feels like I'm writting with marker orz, it's ironic how I like the $2 Daiso pen better than the Safari when I can get 20 Daiso pens with a Lamy Safari lol. Maybe you should let me try your Safari M nib About the safari nib, Lamy Indonesia is actually selling it too for 180k for the steel version and 210k for the black version

I must say that I like Kakuno a lot, it produces a really fine line smoothly, and the smiley face nib are pretty cute too, the problem now is finding the con-50 coverter or pilot cartridge with a decent shipping cost, considering no one is selling either of those in Indonesia. I'm still interested in Metro though since I'm pretty curious about how the Pilot M nib writes

i am using my lamy al-star right now, but it's just for back up. since i am a F nib person. well that is cheap for the black version i think not sure if SG sell a black version of it.

 

you are lucky one, about pilot converter. i think you can ask the pilot metro for con-20, when i bought my metro, i also ask the converter and guess what, they give it for free! so yeah, you get the standart converter in pilot metro then you buy (get it free) for con-20. they don't have con-50 but i think i am good with the con-20, it take more ink than con-50.

 

 

i really interested at pilot mr retro pop though. never know that there is many kind of pilot mr . but i dont think i can buy it from massdrop because i dont have credit card (college student here). i dont think i have any courage to borrow it from my dad , too many question have to be answered if that happen. it looks like i dont have many choices here. i can only buy it offline or online which based in Indonesia.

I bought it at Daiso at the ION Orchard in Singapore, not sure if the Jakarta Daiso have it though since I've never really been to Jakarta's Daiso before. Haha, I feel your pain about being a college student without credit card with all the tempting things only available in overseas but maybe you can try the numerous import service availabe in kaskus, the only problem is that the shipping fee really hurts if you buy things from overseas, hoping that someone in this forum will do mass buy for people in Indonesia someday *finger crossed*.The preppy is a drier writer I guess, that's why the line is a little bit thinner but the Pilot Kakuno is a better writer overall imo, but that's only my preference I guess

if you ask them, maybe they will give you. i actually wanted to buy the converter alongside the metro, but they give it for free. if you don't ask, probably they will not give the con-20. you will only get the metro converter as it's inside the pen already.
