Romus Demonstrator Pen

From the photo, it looks an amazing amount like a Noodlers Creeper and I noticed some comments on the smell. The Noodler pen has a very strong and unpleasent odor that last for days before it lessens... I wonder if there is a connection?

Put them side by side and you will see there's nothing in common between them, except they're both piston fillers.

No, I am not going to list my pens here.

It's my understanding that they're both made in India of the same material. More information is here: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/189154-noodlers-piston-fillers-secret-identity/

I've been using a few of these off and on for several months now (both the clear and the translucent colors) and I've no complaints, especially given how inexpensive they were. The nibs on mine are reliable starters and wet/fine depending a little on the ink, which makes them perfect for editing sessions--I can load 2 or 3 with different colors. The plastic is a bit (think Preppy)--one of mine developed a hairline crack at the cap threads. Otherwise, for me it ranks with the Dollar piston-fill student pens as a cheap demonstrator that generally performs really well. One other plus--the seal on these pens (at least the ones I have) must be good--I can successfully run inks in them that dry out too fast in other pens.

First post! I did a Google search on this brand and got directed to here, so I figured why not and register. I just bought two of these on eBay for twelve whole dollars! I figure 12 bucks for 2 can't be all that bad, but come to find out people like it. So I think I got a deal.

Thanks! I've had a fetish for nice pens for a very long time and have over the past few years grown interested in fountain pens. And yes, I despise ball point pens. That is about on the same level as button down collars, pleated pants, and shoes with tassels.

Just so that people know.If you click on the ebay link from rockdoggy.you will see the vendor as Sundaystreets.I bought the clear demonstrator pens from him 2 for $12.free shipping. They are both fine smooth and wet. They write better than my Platinum3776 or namiki falcon or Sailor 1911.He even let me make an offer when I bought 2 more, and yes they are all like silk.Cheap as hell though.

Oliver Chennai has the same model called oliver exam fountain pen

The Oliver exams offer a good quality nib and writing exprience and at an attractive price point.

I thought Oliver stopped listing fountain pens in their website some time ago, but they might still be selling them now regardless.

No, I am not going to list my pens here.

Since this was the review that prompted me to take the plunge on these, and since someone else has brought it back to life, let me add my own recommendation -- this is a great pen and I'm really pleased with it so far, and I only just got it today. Mine is slightly different from the photo above; the nib is two-toned and carries no obvious identification, but some lovely scrollwork. More later when I get home from work.

Thanks for posting this. I am looking for an alternative to Platinum Preppy. While I absolutely LOVE the Preppy nib–has a nice feel that is different from every other pen I own, and a very nice one at that–I cracked the cap within weeks after getting it. I think my non-caffeinated brain tried to screw it on one day rather than just pull it. Would you say that these pens are more durable than the Preppy or pretty much the same? How would you compare the nibs of the two?

Welcome to the forum. Did you know that there is a pen show in Raleigh at the end of the month? –Well, Cary actually. The Research Triangle Pen Show will be held May 29-June1 at (I think) the Embassy Suites in Cary, which is just off of I-40.

I just received a 4 pack Oliver Exam demonstrator pens from Mr Subramaniam of ASApens, for US$8.99 shipped. He even threw in a Serwex 362 for free (apparently I'm his first customer from my country). The Oliver pens look exactly like the ones on eBay apart from the fact I didn't get a smoke one. The nib lays down a similar line as a Preppy 03 fine, and has some feedback not unlike the Preppy. The finishing is a bit on the cheap side but I'm okay with it, and there is a bit of smell too, but in my experience of other Indian pens it goes away after a few days. It is also very easy to disassemble and works straight out of the box, so I think they are good little pens to have around for testing inks/carrying lots of colours with you.

I also have the Oliver branded version of this pen, and I too feel that it is a remarkably good pen considering how cheap it is.

I saw what appears to be the same pen from one of the brands usually associated with ebonite pens, I think it might have been Gama?

So it sounds like you didn't get them from ebay. Where did you buy them?

Here. Pretty good service, I recommend them if you are looking for Oliver and Gama pens. Not affiliated just a satisfied customer.

Oh no . . . I just spent the last 2 hours perusing their website . . . What other pens did you buy? I like that there are quite a few eyedropper options, and inexpensive ones at that. –I think I'm liking the clear acrylic eyedroppers with the colored marbled caps just a little more than these now.

I got these pens only, and was pleasantly surprised by the free shipping! I received the package within 2 weeks of placing the order too. I think the acrylic eyedroppers look great, but I didn't need the ink capacity of an ED. Pretty inexpensive so worth a shot IMO.

There are quite a few reviews here on FPN of the handmade Gama pens they carry too, if you are interested in them.

I would recommend the wality 71JT & also the 71J. If you prefer somewhat smaller size FP comparative to the 71, go for the 69 model. The 70 is way smaller in size. I dont know why a small size FP is marked as 70 (though its AM stands for acrylic medium)

The wality transparent FPs are hand made of resin (and not plastic) and are very good to use

I put my savings to test

Lamy & Pilot FPs the Best

No more I even think of the rest

(Preference Fine and Extra Fine Nibs)

Pen is meant for writing - not for looking :-)
