Tomoe River Paper Group Buy

D Armstrong

Recommended Posts

This thread is a continuation of the (rather kludged up) Toronto 2013 Meet Up Dates thread, specifically as regards a buy of Tomoe River Paper for those in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

Just to make sure everyone is on the same page, Tomoe River paper is a Japanese-produced product which is extremely thin, A4 in dimensions, and is treated ("sized") in such a way as to completely prevent bleed-through from any fountain pen ink. It has taken the fountain pen community by storm, but there are limited sources, and very few end-use products made from it. (As a side note, the manufacturer's recommended usage is for mail-out catalogues, because of it's low mass.)

Originally there was some talk at some of the meet-ups about a group buy, especially after a few of the attendees showed theirs around. However, a group buy can be hard to organize, and there are minimum quantities in purchasing (4,000 sheets, to be precise).

So, I will be ordering some, and will be happy to co-ordinate with anyone in Toronto who wants in on a group buy. We will be discussing details at the meet-up on Saturday (March 16, 2013), but if you can't be there, feel free to drop me an email (if you haven't already) at antiques@restorersart.com. I will be ordering white, and it looks like cost will be around 4¢/sheet. Pickup will be at the Pen Meet-ups only.

Oh, and The Japanese Paper Place says it is pronounced: Toh'·moh·eh

I'm in as well! I can't make it to tomorrow's meet-up, so I'll email you after the meet is over to inquire about the details. :)

Hi everyone! I'm in as well and I will be at the meeting. 4 cents per page means 20 bucks for a 500 sheet reem/ream/riem? (It's friday) I'll take it!

See you tomorrow.

David,

I walked out before signing up on your sheet. Unintential....I got talking and distracted so I was not up front to sign.

I was after 250 pages of this paper but whatever round lot you want us to take for sample 100 to 500 sheets I do not mind a bit less or more. Can you mark Rob Maguire down for 250 sheets please.

Thanks again for the talc yesterday.

So the meet went very well yesterday, and I have commitments for 4,750 sheets (not including whatever I end up taking), so we are looking at an 8,000 sheet order so far. It looks like I will end up with a fair bit left over, so any stragglers can contact me for some. (Nightwing, still interested?)

I will probably end up doing the order later this week, once everyone has had a chance to contact me.

I'm Gerald Taylor and down on your sheet for 500. Can I bump that to 1000? Thanks!

Count me in as a straggler who couldn't come to the meet on Saturday because of family commitments. I'll happily take 500 sheets if that's still possible.

Sure Gerald, I'll make a note of it.

And, by the way, I never did look at your nifty ink bottles. Be sure you bring them in May if you can!

No problem!

I should mention, though, that to include anyone (including those at the meet-ups), I need:

-real name

-email address

-number of sheets

-phone number

Don't post this on the forums here, though. You can either PM me or (preferably) send it to me back-channel at: antiques@restorersart.com.

Sent you an email on Sunday - did you get it, by any chance?

So I have sent off the order, and a thanks goes to Dennis who drew my attention to a spring shipping deal on at the moment, too.

Now that the actual numbers are coming through it could be as much as 6¢ per sheet. It also depends on a couple of variables (including the shipping confirmation from the folks who actually mail it to us), so I will only really be able to give an exact figure when it arrives. But it certainly won't be the 22¢ I first heard of! If anyone who wants to adjust their order downwards for budgetary reasons once the paper actually gets here, I don't have a problem with that.

So now we wait...

I am sorry I just missed this. I just tried the sheets a friend sent me and I'm completely smitten...:(

Can I up my order from 500 to 1000 please? :)

Fraid not, the order has gone out and it was spoken for down to the last sheet! But we'll do more, and in not too long from the looks of things.

Some eye candy .... just to up the excitement level!

(this is the Tomoe River white paper stitched into a leather bound journal by David!; I call it the Armstrong Journalthumbup.gif. It is amazing how this paper can take so much ink without bleeding through on the other side, especially considering how thin the paper is. You can write on both sides of the paper without any issues.

no bleed through or issues with readability when used on both sides
