  1. 1. What Ebonite Material?

    • Mottled Green/Black
    • Mottled Red/Black
    • Briar Swirl
  2. 2. What Acrylic Material?

Recommended Posts

I'm in, although I have to admit I am not particularly wild about either of the 2 leading colors (Briar Flake and Cappucino Swirl).

Would have loved to see something like Black Rose acrylic.

True bliss: knowing that the guy next to you is suffering more than you are.

I don't think either of the leaders is a material where the nib and clip obviously would need to be gold tone. If they do end up being the ones that get chosen, do other people think it would be preferable to have a gold or silver furniture poll?

If Brian is willing to do that it wouldn't be a bad idea. It could be short too like maybe a day or so to vote.

It appears Brian may be willing to go there if we give him a good enough response that this is something we'd like to see based on one of the comments above. That's the only reason I bring it up.

Here's hoping for Midnight or Neon (2nd choice) Acrylic. I'd be happy with either. It'll be disappointing if the two choices are brown pens with gold hardware.

To my eyes, the Briar swirl is more of a black and orange than a brown. Am I seeing that wrong?

That's what I am seeing too. Someone else said they have an Edison from this material and described it as pumpkinish or something like that.

The poll makes you vote for an acrylic and and ebonite.

Just bringing this up again as it hasn't been discussed much. I wanted to vote for the midnight acrylic but the poll forces you to vote for one of the ebonite options as well (which I have no intention of buying). Obviously this could be a bit of a problem because some of the numbers will not be representative of those who actually want to purchase. I doubt that most people will buy both!

I voted and I'm looking forward to the results. I'm hooked - so thanks for doing this Brian! I have a question about custom nibs afterwards - would we send the pen back to have it customized or buy a second nib separately?

FYI, it's too bad that you have to vote for both ebonite and acrylic colors with "none of the above" as an option. I like two of the ebonite colors, but none of the acrylics. But I had to vote for an acrylic that I didn't like at all.

The ebonite looks like there is a clear favourite but the acrylics are currently split, and a change of vote may affect it. If we don't know when the deadline is we might not have the opportunity to change to our other preference.

I would be happy with either of the black acrylics with silver furniture, and I'm wondering how many others fall into that camp. If most folks were happy with, say, Midnight, the number of votes for that might outweigh the Cappuccino flake. Just throwing that out there.

I wish there was a way to do this without having to vote for an acrylic. I would only buy an acrylic if there wasn't an ebonite option, and then only if it was the cappuccino flake. So, any acrylic would be my fourth choice. Is there a way to edit the poll to include a no preference or none of the above option?

I'm in, any of the ebonites would be fine with me, even though I voted for the red/black. I like the Midnight and Cappuccino Swirl in the acrylics. My wife and I bought a pen from you for our niece at the Ohio Pen Show. You do beautiful work, I can't wait!

First of all, a BIG thanks to Brian Gray for setting this up (and I do mean big!)

I've been interested in Edison for a while, so I'm interested in the group buy to see what they are like. Hope that my choices win (although it's not looking too good at the moment...)

I have a question about the shape of the Morgan grip:

  • Depth of the step or the difference in diameter between the body and the small flat area between the step and the threads.
  • Length of the grip from the step to the edge of the grip.

Alternatively, how does it compare to the Pearl in this area. They both are 0.61" in diameter at the body. Are the two grips the same dimensions?

My reason for asking, the depth of the step and the length of the grip on the Pearl are not ideal for my hands - my thumb rests on the "drop off" on this pen.

I like that the Morgan is longer than the Pearl (which is a bit on the short side for my hands).

Thanks!!

Greg

You'll find that the step on the Morgan is the same as the step on the Pearl. The distance to the section is also the same.

So if you find the Pearl to not be comfortable, this will be the same in the grip area.

I hear everyone on the poll not allowing to vote for only one material.

Sorry about this. If there was a way to allow only one vote, I didn't see it. And I can't edit the poll now for some reason.

So right now, the Briar looks like a clear winner. If it stays this way until Monday morning, then let's make Briar the choice.

If the acrylic stays kind of close, then we can do a quick 2-3 day poll to get more definitive results.

Sound good?

I'm so in like yesterday's jam! This is so exciting! Problem is--like someone else mentioned, my picks for both materials are currently front runners. This could get complicated--and nib selection? Normally I'd grab a broad but italics?

Oh, that begs a question---how crisp are the italics? are they tipped or just steel? Can we get a writing sample?

Thanks for doing this Brian--very excited for this opportunity! (and I haven't even received my first Edison --a pneumatic Belmont which is waiting for me at the post office I think)

Joy!

Let me add my thanks to Brian for embarking on this. I have wanted an Edison ever since seeing them in person in L.A., but analysis paralysis took hold, and I couldn't decide.

Possible subject for a follow-up poll: clip vs. clipless?

Thanks!

Remember that I'm trying to keep the additional polls to a minimum. Recall my statement that in order to offer this at the price that everyone will want, we'll need to cut back on logistics. I simply won't be able to accommodate everyone's wishes.

If there is an issue getting the final material, I don't mind a quick additional poll to finalize that, but I'll make an executive decision now and say that a clip is the only option.
