This is the most wonderful cabinet I have seen! I agree that raised back design is absolute genius. Why other cabinet makers don't use this is beyond me, but obviously with heavy payload like paper, it was a necessity. I think you should consider the Pendora liners if not now then later as you can color code all the storage, or just add a rich color like the Forest Green to make a lovely piece even more attractive. Best of luck with it and we'll wave the next time we drive up to Sedona

Thanks, Steve. The cabinet has proven itself worthy since this thread started. Been using the black liners from Gary Lehrer, which are doing just fine. If you ever come up this way and want to talk pens, PM me and we'll see if our schedule allows...

FWIW, I think it may have been a display case from an old haberdashers, for holding/displaying small items like handkerchiefs or gloves; the glass front to keep out dust, then lift out of the way, and the tray could be taken out to put on the counter for the customer to examine. High back to stop things falling out behind, low front to show off the goods, and cupboards below counter level for back-up stock. Not the same sales system as Wal-Mart........

 

Lovely-looking wood, it would (sorry) look quality behind the counter.

I am currently using one of the old accordion sort of sewing boxes for my much smaller and sloppier collection (no pen trays, just fabric lining the drawers.)
