How Do I Identify The Different Caps? Fp< Rb> Bp

I am an unintentional collector of NOS Cross pen caps that I purchased in a large parts lot a few years ago. I have identified Townsend, Pinnacle, Century and Century II so far. The problems I am having are how to tell the difference between rollerball/fountain caps, ballpoint/pencil caps. Does the rollerball cap fit the Selectip?

What are these caps worth? Is there a demand for them other than for someone that has a pen with advertising on the cap?

Thank you in advance.

Carl

One thing I have noticed with my Cross caps is that the fountain pens have a dot on the end of the cap. My Townsend has a black indented half sphere, and the Century II has what looks like the head of a pin. The rollerballs lack the dot of the FP's, but I don't know if there is any distinguishing mark on BP/pencils, haven't even looked at them before. Hope something in here helps.

yes, there is a big utility in caps! It is fairly easy to get extra sections, and the fountain pen section goes on the roolerball (which is the select tip pen, as it takes a bp or fiber marker refill as well)' and converts it to a fountain pen! The only problem with the resulting FP, is that it lacks the proper black dot in the center.

On the other hand, only obsessive people like me would worry about this, and it really wouldn't be worth a big investment.

EXCEPT!

If someone had a rare rollerball, like the lapis lazuli, the proper cap would raise the street price a few hundred dollars.

The other thing about caps is the gold content of the pen is indicated by the black top of the cap. solid black is 10k, and maybe other numbers less than 18k. A black band is 18k. Also, the top of line pens that aren't gold have the band not the solid plastic cap topper.

I would want a lapis blue fp top, in the event i ever could find the roller, and a green lapis top, to fix the roller i converted, and maybe a silver. But i probably wouldn't pay more that 20-30 bucks.

if you wanted to make a business of upgrading rollers to fp's that may be another story. I even think it would be ethical if you informed the buyer before hand.

What I really need is a silver bp barrel or two.

my remarks were correct about Townsends and pinnacles and signatures. Probably others as well.

If you want a hobby, buy the domain name crosscaps.com. There are a lot of cross pens out there, and people lose caps, or drop them, or have advertising on the (lots are marred by logos!)

how about a picture of your haul! What fun for you!
