Criag, I simply cannot believe that it is a first-time effort for you! It looks like a professionally made pen wrap :notworthy1:

If you look closely, some of the stitching could be better and I need a little tweak on the fastening as it's not fixing in place as I'd like. It also doesn't roll up the neatest but I think it just needs a little time to relax into that shape. All of that said, I am pleased with it but I know where I can improve.

Nice work Craig now could you make another with pictures this time :)

Michael

I need to make another at some point Michael, to improve on the first attempt. It's in the queue though, I've been asked to make another tartan one which I've just finished measuring out.

Actually, in terms of measuring and cutting, the suede one was easier, it was just tough to stitch as I hadn't really a clue what I was doing. This time I've a better idea and your little tip on the thread should help. I've now sourced some waxed thread too.

Yes on the needle and I used backstitch for this one but need to learn some other stitches.

That looks great!

I've finished making my own pen wrap, but I'm somewhat reluctant to put any pens in it because my mom ironed the suedecloth and melted it a little bit near the openings where you put the pens in. I'm afraid it will scratch my pens =/.

That's terrible news. Can you unpick the stitching and replace the part that's melted?

Well I'm planning on making another one anyways. I can just think of the 1st as a prototype XD. For now, I'm just using it to carry some pens and stuff that don't really matter that much to me (Zebra 701 ballpoint, Schrade Tactical Fountain pen, etc. I'm not too worried about scratches on those as it gives it a more rugged look). I'm planning on making the slots bigger, but I was thinking, if I make the slots too big, wouldn't the pens just fall out? I was debating whether or not to make the next wrap able to accommodate the MB 149 (not that I have one, but it seems like one of "THE" pens, so I mean, I should be able to fit one in my wrap), but then that makes it loose for a bunch of other pens.

Depends on.whether you clip your pens over the slot edge and whether or not you have a flap to cover clips.

I'm the only person I'm that critical of but don't worry, it's only when I know I'm capable of improvement.

I would add the photos but am having problems with that at the moment. Trying to get to the bottom of that now but if anyone can help I'd appreciate it.

I'm trying to upload some photos using the "insert image" tool, linking to Flickr and at the preview stage it says "you are not allowed to use that image extension on this board". I've also tried using Picasa with the same issue.

I'm going to give up now as I have work in the morning, will try again tomorrow. Gah.

try the img ones

Depends on.whether you clip your pens over the slot edge and whether or not you have a flap to cover clips.

So I do clip most of the pens over, but the thing is that the cloth isn't all that stiff so the cloth kinda bunches up underneath the clip unless I kinda lift the clip up a little. I'm afraid that maybe with wear and tear the clips will destroy the fabric. It also does have a flap to cover clips.

That's some really nice work, puts mine to shame. What a great piece of fabric. If you make any more, why not sew some stiffer backing material to the back of your pen slot section, it should then stand up to the clips a little better. Whatever you do, you're going to get some wear and tea with a fabric wrap over time.

Thanks for the pics, I'm seiously impressed.
