John Lennon Special Edition

Dear friends,

Almost two years too late for purchasing the MB John Lennon , but this was a deal I just couldn't resist.

Before I bought this pen I read a review of this pen in the review section. There was a complain about a stiff pistonfiller. Luckily mine is buttery smooth when filling it with ink.

First impressions are very good. It starts with the presentation box. It has the shape of a big square like the size of the old LP's. If received as present it would has lot of presence. Now to find a good way to store the box. :roflmho:

Flushed it with some plain water and filled it with Ink of friendship. The reason is that I remembered that the very limited skeleton version was made of a light blue transparant colour.

When holding the pen for the first time it has a quite strange feeling. The barrel is made of resin, but it has the form like many many micro LPs has been pressed to each other to make the barrel and cap.

The performance of the pen is very good. It is just a regular M, but it writes very smooth with a consistent flow. The writing sample was made after the first filling. No skipping at all. First I thought I would change it for a B or BB, but after the first pages I will give it another thought. What if it comes back with a inconsistent flow?

The size of the pen is quite large. I didn't had a 149 with me when taking the pics, but next to the Collodi you can see it's large size.

No cons at all? Yes, there is one. The step between the section and barrel is quite steep, but due to it's large size there various ways to hold the pen.

Hope you will enjoy the pics.

Lovely pen you have there. Does it have a mother of pearl snowcap ?

Thanks. I wish it had the MOP star. It has a nice BIG white splash.

Really nice pen! Had my eye on this for quite a while now, do MB still sell them in their boutiques? The IoF complements the pen beautifully!

Thanks!

I got mine from a B&M-store.

As far as I know my boutique doesn't sell them anymore. If you really want one, you can give them a search request. They will search it through their systems where in the world is one available at a boutique of MB and will ship it to your boutique. Than ofcourse you have to pay more than the MSRP.

So if you want one and it happens to see one at a local shop => buy it.

We still have them at our boutique, so definitely still available. We should have 2 more plus numerous RB and BPs as well as the LE edition white Lennon pens. This is in USA though, so not sure about other countries.

I bought mine at Paradise Pen. I know the store in Richmond VA still has at least 1 more.

Yes, same thinking here. The nib is very plain and monotone.

Does anybody notice that the nib is longer than a normal 146's ?

That is a lovely pen!

Looks can be deceptive. The grooves on the resin & the

guitar hole on the bottom of the cap make the pen stand out.

But, as I found out, these also make the pen even more

prone to cracks & every time you open & close John Lennon-

metal threads on the inside of the cap rub along fragile

precious resin on the threads on the barrel.

Mine is leaking profusely from the threads on the barrel &

the cap has spontaneously cracked around guitar-hole.

Now, the Indian importer is not willing to honor the 2 Yr.

warranty. And I am weighing my options!

Perhaps, maybe, these pens are not meant to be inked and

I have learnt my lesson the hard way.

A Dollar 1000 pen, yet very poor.

Sad to hear your problems.

But isn't it a worldwide warranty? So the boutique has to service the pen FOC within the 2 year timeframe.

Good luck!

Since the Lennon fountain pens are not produced, I went to the boutique to see him again to decide whether to buy. There are two in the stock, one is demonstrated and the nib is a little bit misaligned ,the other F is fine but screws in tightly and has some white powder left on the section. I order another two to see and have not yet made decisions.

I'm sorry for the problem. I've yet to seen this problem occur in our boutique. I do have a question though. When you stated "Indian Importer," are you saying that the pen was purchased from a non-authorized dealer? If pen was purchased from authorized dealer, we would have surely repaired / replaced it. Even if it was from non-authorized dealer, we would have repaired it for sure, but for a fee.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
