149 Pen & Holder

The Major

Recommended Posts

Collected this today and it looks superb! It was a real impulse buy so Im not sure if I have done the right thing as I usually use a Le Grand and travel with them in my pocket in a case but Id like to get the desktop use from this

Looks very very slick and ink flows smooth and clean from it

This desk pen stand is really nice. Have you seen the inkwell and other desk accoutrements that match that base? The complete desk set looks really impressive on an otherwise empty desk. I have a friend who is a Montblanc collector who has a desk laid out with this set. His complaint about the matching inkwell is that the top does not completely seal the ink in, so he cannot use the Sailor cone insert I have given him, when he complained about not being able to fill his pen when the ink was low.

You would ever regret buying a 149 and the pen holder. I am a great fan of MB dedicated pen stands, as they allow you to just insert the pen into the tulip (no needs to screw the pen), and have it instantly available without cap and uncap. I you spend quite enough time at the desk, you would see that your 149 AND the pen stand will be the most used in your collection. A very good purchase, IMO. Here is my desk, with a 149 and a 146 stands, plus the inkwell (and I'm waiting for another 149 pen holder to be used with the Dumas or the Hemingway, and a Meisterstück ink blotter in led crystal, a real work of art...).

<snip for brevity>

If it were not for the fact that my friend is reclusive and does not use forums like FPN, I would think I was looking at a part of the surface of his desk. He does have the blotter and I agree that it is a real work of art. He uses his Hemingway as a "carry in the pocket" pen when he has to venture out to sign contracts and legal documents.

Are you sure about the MB stand allowing you to just insert and not screw the pen in? I mean, I'm sure one could just insert it, but then a dry nib will follow. I'm not totally sure, but I think this stand is suppose to be used by screwing the pen in about half a turn.

I have the 146 pen stand. The pen does not screw in. I just insert the pen into the holder. The nib does not dry out. The pen is ready to write even after it sat unused while I went on a week's vacation.

My pen holders have threads inside, and the pens may be screwed in. However, I never screw them because I want the pen immediately available, and the nibs never dry out, even when I do not use them for several days. I never had a dry nib out of the stand.

Internal threads are different in holders from different periods, according to the "male" threads on the pen body, which changed over time. So, be cautious if you intend to screw your pen into the holder, as the threads of the pen and those of the stand must be of the same type.

I appreciate the comments, Im not sure its the right set for me as I have always carried pens around with me and having it sat on the desk just isnt doing it for me :wacko: so it all might be going back or getting sold sadly, but hopefully my loss is someones gain.

Ive decided Im just going to buy a Swift to go with the Collodi so Ive put the set up for sale

Darn. I have not managed to sell my company yet. That would give me cause to tidy up my desk.
