I have just the one FP at the moment, and it curently stays in my box of drawing markers (my copics and such).

 

The box came from Michael's and is pretty without being overdone to my taste:

I decoupaged one of those DIY wooden boxes from A.C. Moore with Gustave Dore images from the Divine Comedy. It has one tray for pens, and underneath the tray there are assorted writing-related goodies (sealing wax, etc.):

All joking aside I usually just keep them laying on my dresser or in a leather case when I need to take them somewhere.

Love the test tube holder but would also kill to get the draws with the glass top.

I use a Jewellery box and a Parker display shop stand. Not very exciting.

This was actually my first attempt at making a box it's not finished yet and is far from perfect, but serves it's purpose well.

The Sheaffer Targa collection lives here in this map chest. There are a few other pens in one of the drawers. Each drawer can hold 66 pens. The black cabinet to the left used to hold pens, but it's pretty much empty now. The pens have all moved to better addresses in the nice wooden cabinets.

This is my newest pen storage case, it was designed and used for many years as a silverware storage cabinet. These photos were taken before I had put any pens into it. There are quite a few in it now, there are slots for 216 pens. A few more in their display cases go in the bottom compartment and inks go in the top compartment.

question time - where do you get the tray to put the fountain pens on.

Do you make them, if so, is there a pattern,

what is the material used.

or can the trays be bought?

Since I cannot buy a pen box where I live, I had it made at a local furniture manufacturer. I gave them a picture which I had stolen from the Internet to replicate a nice box made in Japan (about $450!). It's made out of teak wood. Smart as I am, I did not measure the size of my ink bottles, that's why only the Sailor Jentle and the MB special edition inks will fit into the lower compartment. All the other inks have to stand guard outside as shown on the picture So next time I know better and I may ask someone here to give a helping hand measuring out a suitable box. This box set me back $70 and serves me quite well residing on my desk with its small footprint - though the craftsmanship is certainly not top notch the pens are protected and I will at least find them and don't have to check my shirt pockets in the washing machine. On the top tray are the pens in, on the lower tray the FPs currently out of rotation (I do have more than one pen, yes). I am looking for some material to cover the wood of the trays for the pens to lay on a smoother surface.

Comments are appreciated (comments regarding the ink compartment will be deleted).

Love your box, ink compartment or no. And between you and me, this was, I think, on purpose. Now you need an additional box to hold the other ink bottles, and of course the new pens that will be on their way. In the meantime, I see some empty compartments where you might put spare nibs, feeds, and the like, and maybe spare converters, and/or ink cartridges and ink samples (tightly closed of course).

And in your place I would not mess with the trays. They are easily the most beautiful such pen trays I've seen. And since the box is in a fixed place, the pens don't move around - why would they need cushioning?

Sailor ink bottles fit in the top, with accessories, like lose nibs. converters and other bits and parts. The drawer fits 5x4=20 pens.
