couldn't resist adding two final touches to the case:

an easily removable palette-type board that i can write on, and also for added protection to the interior,

and rubber studs to the bottom of the case (the hinge was making it unstable standing up):

One quick suggestion for your board... You might want to add a little leather tab (fasten it to the bottom of the board and let it stick up from one of the slots around the edge) so that you can grab it easily and get it out of there.

This case is fantastic!!!!

great idea, thanks. the board actually pops out quite easily by pressing a finger on a corner, but i think a leather tab would look neat.

thanks, too, cyber6--i could make more of these but i'm about 8,000 miles away from where most of you are ;) help yourself to the idea, though--i'm sure a lot of old boxes and cases out there can be repurposed similarly without too much trouble.

I must agree with everyone - these cases are beautiful!!! Now I'm on the hunt for some cases of my own to do some DIY work.

Currently using:Too many pens inked to list, I must cut back! :) I can guarantee there are flighters, urushi, and/or Sheaffer Vac-fillers in the mix!!!

Hi, Maryanne--a local pen club member named Tato Faustmann runs a metal plating company called 7 Castles and he graciously offered to make the name plate for me for a very reasonable price (USD$7)--and it's real brass at that ;)

Excellent work - that is a travelling case to be proud of.

Pens and paper everywhere, yet all our hearts did sink,

Pens and paper everywhere, but not a drop of ink.

See, this is why I have to stay away from this part of FPN! Now I find myself going out to ebay looking for wooden artist boxes! Every time I come here, I spend money! :bonk: Oh yeah...beautiful work!

here are my best vacs in the other new case:

I showed these to my daughter and she gave me that scary look and said "only if he uses them" and then raised an eyebrow at me as if to imply that any of us here would buy pens and ink and not use them. "Ha!" I say.

As soon as she's out of the room, I'm going to drool at this pen porn some more.

Beautiful... just beautiful.

I have been meaning to do something like this for a long time, but have not been able to find the wooden box with which to start. India does not have much of a cigar culture, so its not like I can find an empty cigar box easily.
