My Latest Acquisition

Rick Propas

This is one of those fabled pens, a laser engraved Pelikan M800, that I just got less than three hours ago. Those who know their way around M800s will spot the one anomaly on this pen, owner induced.

Here is the semi-official story according to Regina Martini:

In 2000 this pen was made in Italy (from Pelikan) without the

autorisation [sic] of Pelikan Germany. Limited to 100 pieces. Pelikan

Germany bought back all pieces they could get, and destroyed the

pens. Only a few pieces survived!

Pelikan!

The engraving is nicely done, pelikan could have taken some inspiration from it.

the anomaly is the cap top? someone swapped the inner cap, carrying the cap top along with it?

Wow fabulous Rick! I'm also thinking the oddity is the all metal top on the cap as I'm pretty sure they weren't avalible back in 2000.

It's probably the cap top logo, but I'm going to guess the other end. The part that turns to move the piston, it's not etched like the rest.

Very nice by the way, and rare so it appears.

Nice rare M800

wish that you now obtain the M800 prototypy with 'Candy colored' binde and cap tops

Made by Pelikan, Germany but never publicly sold

worth looking for possibly?

Congratulations Rick. Another rare bird indeed!

Did the acquisition come with its original box? How does it look like?

Yup, you guys got it, it's the captop. I just cannot abide the ones with the screened logos. The rest of the pen is as it came from Italy except that I plugged in a 14 C custom nib for use.

The packaging is nothing, really, just the yellow/black G6 or G7 (I can't keep them straight) missing the little wave platform. I was kinda disappointed about that, but not surprised

Remember that this was not a sanctioned edition.

Maybe we can no0w make this thread a stepping off point for people to bring out their less common 800s. I was thinking earlier what a great platform it has been for customization. If it goes there I'll drag out a couple of my more obscure pieces.

Rick I am confussed. Does this mean that the cap finial has been replaced or was that etched finial available in 2000? While I am not as fond of that finial, I think it would look better than the old style. Nice addition to the collection.

I replaced the original (carefully storing it with the packaging) with the one shown (the 2011 version) as soon as I got the pen. I thought about using one of the first series with the etched gold disc and I might at some point do that. If I did, I'd also replace the turning knob on the filler with a gold dot version.

I have collaborated with David Broadwell to create these (modified from customer pens) which are available from the website

I guess I do have a few of these. Who else wants to show off their custom 800s??

The Rossi has to be the prettiest pen I've ever seen, so jealous.

Here's a couple of Pelikan M800 customs by Chris Burton... the brown plays beautifully in the light (and I just couldn't wait to see if the new tortoise would ever come out) and the red is like a coral pattern with very subtle veins... extraordinary. Chris is a master craftsman on these custom bindes! My camera pictures do not do them justice!
