So, I inked up more than 25 pens - and I did a quick comparison.

The Pineider has Edelstein Aventurine thanks to @DromgoolesHouston.

Hi @amberleadavis, these are two very nice pens!

My Pineider GB Tigers Eye is among my wettest writers as well - seems to be intentional. To my experience, the P.Edelstein Aventurine is a medium wet ink. Much more dry - and taming the GB a bit - are Waterman Harmonious Green and Pelikan 4001 Dark Green. The first is close in color to the Aventurine, the second has a bit more Blue in it and is darker.

Do you have the entire collection?

;) almost. The M600 series ist the perfect size for me, so I have:

White Turquoise, White Violet, Tortoise Red, M605 White Green, M605 White White. Five pens with 6 nibs, two of each EF, F and M with one per size ground to a stub or italic (and the other is left original).

Simply perfect set in function and colour!

No more pens needed in 2022  ... haha 😇 . I'm missing the M600 in White Tortoise 😪

One life!

Wow! There are some awesome pens in your current rotation. Is this the set you will use the whole year? 😇

I love the red Pineider and the #5 (Guider ?) the most. Would #5 be a more slim pen, it would be a 'must have' for me... ;)

One life!

I know it's not particularly "sexy", but the stub "cursive medium" on the $18.00 Pilot Metropolitan is probably the most consistent performers of any of my stubs. [including vintage and modern pens at 10 to many multiples the cost]

David, that is a beautiful pen. Of course, your penmanship makes every pen look amazing. Which is your favorite pen under $300?

Thanks for the kind words, @amberleadavis!

Re. favorite pen: That's almost like asking which is my favorite child! A hard question. Well, I'll try to answer. Note that all my comments are for stubs or italic nibs, factory or custom-ground. That's what I use 95% of the time.

First, I'm mostly into modern pens. I know there are lots of great vintage pens for <$300. I have been particularly impressed with the Sheaffer pens that share nibs for the Connaisseur and Balance II pens. For new pens, I am having a love affaire with Leonardo Officina Italiana. The steel nibs are quite good. The gold nibs are better, but obviously more expensive. Of pens with gold nibs <$300, it's hard to beat the Sailor 14 and 21Kt Zoom and Music nibs. They make wonderful Cursive Italic writers. I have a Lamy 2000 with a BB nib. I plan on having it ground to CI eventually. That pen could be in the running.

I gather you like smaller pens. I think you can find Pelikan M300 and M400 pens for your price, and I like how Pelikan's write, although M800's are my preferred model. And, as I said, Sailor nibs are wonderful, and Sailor Professional Gears come in a variety of sizes.

And then there are the small, American artisans like Shawn Newton, Eric Sands, Franklin-Christoph and many others. To be honest, I tend to buy those with steel nibs and swap in gold JoWo's ground to CI by fpnibs dot com.

Oh, dear! The more I think about it, the more good options come to mind. I gotta go now.

Happy writing!

David

The Guider Capsul by default is much thinner see the one I posted on pages 82 and 84.  This was a custom Guider using some amazing material, but when we bought such big nibs, he had difficulty making it smaller.

To answer the rest of the question, I still haven't pulled my favorites in to rotation so expect to see more soon.

Okay, I'm going to look at the Sheaffer Connaisseur and Balance II nibs.  I was considering the Sailor Pirate's life with the Music nib - my Thompson is a CI Music nib and it is one of my favorites, the other consideration was a LOI, but I was unsure.  A Lamy 2000 has been on my list for years.  I used the Frankin-Christoph nibs in the posts below and I adore my pens from Newton.

Now, who is this Eric Sands person?

Love your reply!

Eric is "Lussopens dot com." He does custom pens in a few different models. He mostly works with beautiful resins, but also micarta and a lot with abalone.

I dug up this photo of some of my pens from US artisanal pen turners. The second and third pens from the right are two of Eric's. (They are sandwiched between two custom pens from Shawn Newton, BTW.)

Enjoy!

I was looking at a calligraphy book and realised my italic had become muddled with foundational so it's back to basics for me.
