Sailor 14k music nib - a cursive italic with some serious line variation ...

http://i.imgur.com/TfgUJPi.jpg

Is it a factory music nib or was it altered/improved by someone?

Above all shadows rides the Sun
And Stars for ever dwell:
I will not say the Day is done,
Nor bid the Stars farewell.

Tartuffo, your italic is spectacular.

This is a Ranga Model 3 with a Kanwrite flexible nib, ground to a 0.8 mm cursive italic.

Pelman, I have the same pen and it is my very favorite.

Seeing this makes me want to buy another pen from CONID! They are absolutely wonderful.

I like the size of that nib, and that style of writing is so clear and easily read. Fantastic!

I have been enjoying and admiring all the recent posting to this topic. I am traveling without internet connection other than my phone, so not sharing stuff.

Anyway, I am particularly pleased that replies like Trartuffo's are encouraging others to learn and use italic handwriting. On the chance others (besides dcpritch) are considering Lloyd Reynolds' excellent handbook and are not aware of the instructional videos he made, they are also excellent and were made to view in conjunction with the handbook. The book and video together are much more helpful that either alone, IMO. The videos are available on youtube dot com.

Thank yu Bobje . I think it's still a ways off "spectacular" but I have seen

a huge improvement thanks to a lot of practice.

Thank you, and for creating such a fun thread. I never imagined there

could be so many different stubs & italic nibs on such beautiful

pens.

I have a few other books but even given his fairly rigid approach,

Reynolds' book is the one I always find myself going back to.

......makes me want to buy another pen from CONID!

As another fpn member so aptly put it , a Conid " is all the pen

you will ever need " .

I hope you folks can tolerate ink spots in all my nib pics. Whenever I try to wipe a nib clean it seems to just smear the ink around in a different manner, so I no longer make an effort. What you see is what I'm writing with, good or bad.

DCPRITCH - awesome looking pen. I have been going back and forth with having Greg retip some old M #9 18C nibs I have from the 1960s/1970s. It is good to see an example of his work.

Not so grand as the 149, but here is what I am playing with today at work. These Sheaffer Legacy stub nibs are closer to italics, or at least cursive italics, as the corners are a bit sharp. i have to watch my hand position a bit more.

Hi Bob. I just use my Samsung Note 4 (the days before they started spontaneously combusting) phone and pray it gives me some decent level of focus. It helps if the ambient light is good as I do not use any additional lighting. Every once is a while a decent enough picture comes out.
