Hey all,

This is an amazing thread! I am new to FPN--and pretty excited about it--because of this thread. It has been a pleasure to read from start to finish and to see so many phenomenal pens and those gorgeous stub nibs. I will likely contribute a pic of my own humble stubs soon.

Thanks to dcpritch and all the contributors!

Jack

Welcome on board Jack.

Sooner the better with those pics :)

pankaj, which of those three nibs do you prefer? I used to have one of the big Pelikan M1000 O3B nibs but I sold it a couple of years ago - it was just too big and wet - and I had an OBB on an M800 but sold that one, too - they helped me decide I prefer regular stubs to oblique nibs. And which MB nib is that?

JackdeSpadas, I'm glad you are enjoying the thread, and welcome! I'm looking forward to seeing your pens.

Iñaki, that OMAS is marvelous in every way! Thanks for sharing.

Omas Milord Wild, but the wildest thing is the stub nib.

That is an amazing stub. It should have it's own little caution sign, "Warning! Extreme Stub!"

And what you wrote with it takes full advantage of every bit of its stubbiness. Great job.

This is a Sheaffer Targa which came with three (!) stainless steel nibs, as you can see.

That set isn't supposed to come with a stub! It should have Fine, Medium and Broad Italic nibs, none of them tipped. My guess is that someone swapped out the Fine nib.

I didn't know this was a "set," but what you say makes sense. I may have the stub ground to a CI. It doesn't suit my needs as is, really. Thanks for that information!

Here's the set:

I don't know of any other untipped Targa nibs than the ones in this set. Except, of course, those that some user has ground off the tipping. But these are the only untipped nibs that came from the factory that way.

Not a targa: Recently I acquired two NOS Sheafffer Imperial Cartridge Black Nib units with a factory calligraphy italic points in medium and double bold. Both are untipped but smooth nonetheless.

Of course it counts!!! Thanks for showing us what you're using. I love wide nibs that also flex - you get line variation from the flex as well as from the job shape, and that makes writing a joy, at least to me.

This is one beautiful nib! Your choice of writing and color showcase it very well.

Well - stubbish anyway.

This is a Lamy 2000 that started out as a broad firehose, so I decided to try and tame it a bit by grinding it a bit narrower.

I´m not sure I succeeded in this, but it is quite fun to use :)

The ink is a mix of blue Quink and a dark blue Diamine of some sort.

That's a very nice, rich blue! And the nib looks like a fun profile. You've got some modulation in the line without the sharpness, so that to me looks like the writing from a true stub!

For a Blue-Black lover like me, this is a pretty nice mix.

The nib does show better line variation on proper paper. Cheap stuff like this eats up the thinner lines.
