I have an M800 fine nib. Is there anything that can give it some character other than making it into an XF, or is there not enough material to work with? Who might you suggest to do the work?

You could definitely have it reground into a stub. My writing is *very* small, and I've recently had a couple of EFs (one Montegrappa, one Omas) reground into cursive italics and am quite happy with them. They don't show as dramatic line variation as many of the wider nibs in this thread, which would be unusable for me, but the difference from my usual EFs and EEFs is striking.

I was inspired to have the work done after reading this thread by Phthalo. Unfortunately, the images have disappeared, but I've retrieved a few using the Wayback Machine. I hope the OP will not be unhappy if I repost them here (click on the images for a large view):

A fine can give a 0.6mm stub, maybe 0.7mm since Pelikan runs wide.

So many delicious nibs! I just put this writer together last night: TWSBI 580 USA with an Edison #5 EF made into a 0.5mm cursive italic.

Durp, finding a Sheaffer of that vintage with a factory stub nib is an uncommon and happy occurrence. Congrats on a great pen!

TeaHive, I'm always amazed at the things I see done with TWSBI pens - and Noodlers pens, for that matter - with all manner of different and unusual nibs put in them. This one looks like a great marriage. Are you liking it after using the combo for a while?

This Montegrappa is a wonderfully elegant pen, but the OBB nib is almost too broad for everyday use.... :(

What an elegant nib. If you don't want it, I'd be happy to take it off your hands. :D  :puddle:

Such a kind offer...typical of the folks on here who are so keen to help one and other :)

Even if the nib is not a favourite, the pen surely is. So thanks, but no thanks :)

This is an awfully interesting thread...I like thin flexy nibs but I like calligraphic stubs as well. I have a wood-grain Waterman 52 with a broad stub and a black one with Mottishaw-modded medium nib - they're both an awful lot of fun to write with.

I have several 52 1/2 v ringtops, so I'm thinking of stubbing one of the #2 nibs. Any comment? Warnings?

Somehow I missed a long ago update on this thread. -_- Grr. But yes!!! The combination I made is very lovely--one of my favorite pens to write with. I almost hate to toot my own horn, but I'm getting pretty good at making my own cursive italics. B)

Thought I'd add a pic of my very first stub:

It’s on a Pelikan “Café Crème” with a 14k two-tone M400 nib, as sold by nibs.com. I requested an EF nib reground into an approx. .33 stub. Here's a CU of the nib:

Digging it so far.

Wow that is a good looking nib! :)

Is it smooth to write with? I have a 0.4 stub which seems very scratchy compared to my other stubs. Any chance if a writing sample?
