For what it's worth, here's my other Italix, this time a Churchman's Prescriptor with a medium stub. I'm still learning my way around this one.

I've not tried any of the Italix pens but they have been getting good reviews here on FPN. It looks like it suits you well!

Akustyk, that Sailor 1911 is a wonderful pen and the Sailor music nib is fantastic, as well. I showed some pictures of mine at entry #205 (page 7 above). A few fountain pen friends have written with that pen and they have each remarked at how smooth and easy to use it is. I wish my writing looked as good as yours!

Cheers, DAVID

Pelikan M400 Brown Tortoise with a 1980s M600 18k B nib, stubbed by Masuyama

I went on a trip with my wife two weeks ago and took two pens with me - a TWSBI Micarta and a Pelikan M400 Tortoise. Both are great for travel; the Micarta is rough and tumble and the Tortoise is classy enough to go anywhere, plus with this nib the pen is just plain fun. The nib on the M400 is actually an old-style M600 nib (the old M600 is the same size as the new M400 and the nib units are interchangeable). This one is 18k and it is quite a bit softer than the modern 14k versions, and it was turned by Mike Masuyama into a wonderful stub nib. The ink (Noodler's #41 Brown) is about to run out so I thought I'd quick do a writing sample while it was inked.

dcpritch: Fab thread, I'm lovin every post - I also recently acquired a TSWBI Mini, although I wasn't brave enough to get the 1.5, instead & got the 1.1. So far its become my favourite pen, I carry it everywhere.

Cheers

Mark

This dropped through the letterbox three hours ago. I have been having a LOVELY afternoon with it. It's a Parker Challenger from Greg Minuskin, with a 1.3mm custom stub nib. The man is a genius; this nib is simply remarkable, and a joy to use. It's unbelievably smooth, it has a small amount of flex, it's wet, and it's going to be my new go-to pen for note-taking - this thing will write happily at speed.

It's a button fill, which I really enjoy.

This is Noodler's Golden Brown on a plain Midori Traveler's Notebook insert.

This last pic is one of Greg's - I don't have the equipment to take good macro shots!

Thanks (again) Greg - I love it and it's made me very happy.

Nakaya Neo Standard, Heki-tamenuri urushi, 14k BB stub by Mottishaw

John Mottishaw's name comes up whenever there is a discussion about the best nib technicians in the world because, well, because clearly he is one of them. This pen is an example of his work. He took the stock 14k Nakata BB nib on this pen and made it into a wonderful writing stub nib while somehow retaining the "feel" that is unique to Nakaya nibs. What results is a fantastic pen (Nakaya urushi is worthy of all the gushing praise one hears) with a 1.30mm stub nib (measured with precision calipers) that writes smoothly and flows perfectly.

I found this set on a recent road trip to Montana. It's a hard rubber Big Red with a factory stub. I'm guessing the pencil is from around 1928 because it appears to be made of Permanite

Great pen! A factory stub nib on that pen is pretty hard to come by, and even more fun to use (at least it looks that way)!
