Drawing With Aurora 88

Hi,

It's a remarkably surprising nib isn't it? I used to have an 88 with a flexible nib more than five years ago, and I still remember the responsiveness it had. Nice drawings!

Dillon

Stolen: Aurora Optima Demonstrator Red ends Medium nib. Serial number 1216 and Aurora 98 Cartridge/Converter Black bark finish (Archivi Storici) with gold cap. Reward if found. Please contact me if you have seen these pens.

Please send vial orders and other messages to fpninkvials funny-round-mark-thing gmail strange-mark-thing com. My shop is open once again if you need help with your pen.

Great stuff! It's fountain pens in hands like yours that inspire me to write and draw, even though the results are never going to be half as good.

I agree about the inspiration. I have to detach from the idea that I can draw as well (or half-as-well or even barely...) and just keep drawing for my own kicks, otherwise I will never become skilled. Meanwhile, I LOVE seeing the drawings that others share, like these. Really motivates and inspires me. Thanks, fpupulin!

in fact, that is exactly what Fountain Pen Network is about: a matter of inspiration. Inspiration at seeing how people unwillingly spend their time to help others resolving common and not-so-common problems; inspiration to look a second time to a pen that you disliked the first time but others intimately appreciate and teach you how; inspiration at learning letter shapes and ink shadows that help you express yourself better; inspiration at understanding the relativity of anything – what is ugly to you is magnificent for others, what is unaffordable for you is "normal for others", and what you can buy is sometimes just a dream for others; inspiration at respecting others' views and to change your owns; inspiration to spend money in a way that most people simply can not understand.

So, let me instead thank you all for your posts and comments, and your drawings and writings, for the many things I learned in the forums of these pages and for the fantastic friendship with which you maintain our "community of the pen".

I'm not going to quote your post with the drawings to prevent everyone from having to scroll twice over the same stuff, but I really like your drawings!

I also equally like your view of the FPN, and I too believe this is what it's about. When I first read some posts here, I had a whole different mindset... I'm by no means trying to be offensive to anyone here so please forgive me my first impression which I've already left behind for a long time.

When I'm starting to take interest in something, I start doing some research on a forum, so I ended up here when I thought of buying my first 'nice' pen. Then I saw a bunch of posts where people would display a ton of pens, which at the time I thought were utter madness to spend so much money on. Somehow I saw this as a display of people showing off their wealth. But then came the point you made; "inspiration at understanding the relativity of anything". As I became more intrigued by pens, my mind quickly changed over time until I'd reached a point where I looked at a pen which I found way out of my league a year and a half before, and thought "Hmm, actually this pen isn't really quite as expensive as I reminded..." THAT was the moment where I found myself in a turnaround contemplating exactly your view on FPN! It made me realize this isn't all about showing off, it's about sharing nice things with each other.

Good comments.

Somewhere in all of us is a common desire, to pick up a pen, fill it with ink and write, or draw, or paint a cave wall*, to make a mark that says, "I was here".

Regardless of the amount we spend, or personal taste, our pens are treasured. This is a character trait that interests me, something shared, but defined and expressed in so many ways.

Good discussion inspired by an artwork, produced with a well loved pen, by a talented individual.

*(be kind to the nib)

fpupulin, chopper88, Thank you for the wise words. Learnt a great deal.

Very inspirational!

I have posted for advise on some pens and I was on a quest to find out about a good pen and came this post. Good pen is a good tool for the creative people and the likes and it gives them confidence to start and finish the job at hand. After I have liquidated some of unused photographic gears, I have decided to invest on the good pens for my art/sketches and I hope I will get the rewards using them as a good tool.

Thank you for the posting good words and great art!
