My Complete Fp Collection

Hello again everyone.

 

It seems like I've managed to get my hands on a small glass inkwell today.

It has got a round metal base functioning as an anti-topple device, fastened to the glass container with a threaded groove(english expression pls - anyone?).

 

 

 

You can see the little groove at the bottom of the glass container here:

 

 

 

And on the inside of the metal "skirt":

 

 

 

I've been unable to find any kind of brand markings on it, so I haven't got any idea about how old it is, or where it comes from.

My guess is that it's a fairly cheap inkwell, but where it has been used, I don't know.

The lid is pretty worn:

 

 

 

As you can see on the top photo, the "skirt" doesn't reach all the way down to the table, so I wonder if it has been inserted into something with the "skirt" resting on whatever the inkwell has been resting on/in.

Anyway, I hope that the little inkwell can be made to look somewhat okay again with a bit of washing and careful polishing.

 

And I managed to find another no-name chinese fountain pen as well today.

The guy at the thrift shop was about to chuck it out when I stopped him and asked what he wanted for it.

He then gave it to me, because he thought the pen was just garbage.

And yes it's beat up and scratched pretty bad, there's bite marks on the cap and it definitely need some tender loving care, but I think I can make it look okay. It'll do just fine as a work pen, lodged securely in my work pants.

Hmm, it seems like I keep finding bargains at the local thrift shops.

Yesterday I found an old brass inkwell, but had to have it put aside for me as I didn't have any cash with me, and the shop didn't accept MasterCard.

Today I picked it up and went home and gave it a thorough polishing.

I got it cheaply as nobody want to buy brass items for the home these days, ad so the price is low.

It looks like it might be from the 1920's or 1930's, the glass bottle that's supposed to hold the ink is missing - guess it got broken once and was never replaced, so now I'm on the lookout for someone who can make me a custom replacement bottle, as I don't believe I'll be able to find such a bottle that'll fit perfectly into the little bottle holder thingy.

I can't find any maker's stamps on the thing, so I guess it's a fairly cheap model, but I'm not sure.

Anyway, I do think it's rather elegant, and so I'll see if I can get an ink glass container made for this.

Today's flea market haul - I was very very *very* lucky today!

Be careful with that 224. The pointed part of the grip on the top side of the nib can have a stress crack starting at the pointed part. I have one 224 and it leaks ink because of the crack.

And don't worry, I will.

I mean: With all the wonderful pens and brands that are out there, how can I stop?

At least I've got the advantage now, of my local thrift shops knowing that I'm looking for pens, desk sets, rocker blotters and such, that helps a lot.

And being easily recognisable (black mohawk haircut) helps a lot too.

I can recommend getting acquainted and asking regularly at the thrift shops and flea markets, it's not often that something interesting shows up, but it does happen.

You asked about the English word for the the ink pot connection. You had it right. I would call it a threaded connection. The grooves are called threads, on both the glass bit and on the base.

Thanks, N2theBreach, I appreciate your kind words and the input on the proper wording of the inkwell description.

I looked it up in my dictionary, but I still wasn't completely sure, since my english dictionary is fairly old - and I didn't know if people use a more recent phrase or what.

So I just wrote it and thought that if people don't get the meaning or something, they'll either correct me - or ask.

But it was just right, and I'm happy about that.

Alright, latest flea market finds - and a solution to something that had me confuzzled...namely the little glass inkwell.

 

Well - here's the solution...*facedesk* *rofl*

 

 

And I've found out that the metal is pewter. So far, so good - but argh I felt *silly* when I realised that the "skirt" had been put on upside down! Bleargh!

 

 

Alright, silly mistakes aside, here's what I got today:

But both glass inserts are there, and the set looks really neat.

 

 

 

A simple office pen rack, in serious need of some loving polishing.

...and finally something which I've needed badly when hunting for fp's at flea markets and thrift shops.

Alright...I think I got a very very very nice bargain at the flea market today...as far as I've been able to find out, this is a german 1935 Mont Blanc 234½ with the 100 series hourglass clip, but since I'm no MB expert, please correct me if I'm wrong.

I got it cheaply, so it was a true bargain no matter what.

It was a bit difficult to get it to suck up water at first when I cleaned it, but it got better, and when I rinsed it for the last time it held water nicely.

Which makes me think that the piston "seal" or whatever it's called, need a replacement.

I mean: I wouldn't wager a white shirt on it being able to hold ink properly.

I have this same pen, too, except in a lighter wood. I also have the case it came in, which is basically two pieces of (darker) wood hinged together with a hollowed-out part on one piece for the pen. It was a present from my husband years ago, and my recollection is that it leaked. Now I think I might know enough about pens to be able to fix the leak problem... maybe. Are all these pens in your writing rotation? You have some very lovely ones!!
