My son is a high school teacher in Melbourne, Australia. He has equipped two of his classes with Smiggle pens. The kids love them and parents are commenting on the greater pride which their children are taking in their work. Several of the kids have already moved " up market" and different inks are being tried. One of my son's teacher colleagues has also equipped students with Smiggle pens.

It is not easy to buy an inexpensive pen "over the counter" (without recourse to EBay) and Smiggle is to be congratulated for making this option available.

Hi,

Wow, I had a purple Smiggle fountain pen before, but mine looked different. It was really short and made from transparent plastic. Interesting, I think they changed the pens they sell. I got mine six years ago, but I don't think I have it anymore.

An update on these great pens.

Yesterday I pulled out a Smiggle Pen from the desk in our holiday home and was planning to insert a cartridge. I noticed some ink in the feed and thought I'd failed to clean it properly the last time I'd used it. Low and behold, there was a 1/2 used cartridge of Private Reserve Orange Crush in it. Given that my blue Smiggle pen hadn't been used since April, and Orange Crush can be a challenge, I thought I'd have some trouble with the pen.

I removed the cap and the pen wrote perfectly immediately - no hard start, no skipping, no crust, nothing. Impressive. I just wish they'd bring out an Orange one!

I guess that's what you get for using such a cheap pen, eh? Perfect performance.

I tried this pen for the first time the other day, and was amazed at how well it wrote.

The nib was very smooth, nice and wet and a joy to write with.

I popped a converter in mine and loaded it with Pelikan Edelstein Tanzanite, and have to say I was very impressed.

Obviously the build quality is not up to par with a pelikan, but the nib is as smooth as my M200

maybe I got lucky, but its a bargain of a pen.

In my experience they're consistent, haven't experienced any nib variation. The bonus is that the white "Smiggle" writing on the barrel wears off pretty quickly.

I have been using one as my work diary pen for some months now. it is filled with Sheaffer Skrip Blue and is the only pen/ink combination that will write on the carppy office-supplied diary paper without feathering or bleeding to the other side.

Exciting it ain't, but functional it is.
