I've been a little behind on this thread. I had no idea so many wonderful pens (and their indulging owners) would respond to the query for photos. bunny01.gifbunny01.gifbunny01.gif

phlosar, That's quite an inspiring collection of vintage black pens. I love the Security pens--haven't seen those before!

Montblanc owner and lover, You and I think alike--you know what they say about great minds. haha

Hari, I've never seen a clip with such a large jewel...wow! I'm guessing it's a Chinese pen? Or am I mistaken? Tell us more!

guilhermejf, Love your collection. That Parker 21 Super pushed me over the edge to try out some Hero 616 pens--hoping I can get along with a grip section like that, and maybe lure others into the FP addiction.

KrazyIvan, Is that a Pilot and a Sailor?? Seeing the two clip styles together really underscores how much a clip stands out on a black pen. Great photo for the thread.

jgysenbergs, How do you like the bulk filler? I'm very curious to see what people think of them, and optimistic that (fingers crossed) other brands might consider licensing that design... I could see Pilot or TWSBI using that system. What do you think?

olivier78860, Do you mean to say that you have vintage pens in addition to that fine collection of black modern pens? Looks like your M1000 has been used quite a bit. Is it your favorite, EDC, or what?

Thank you, it is great seeing all the black pens. :)

The pen on the top is a Pilot/Namiki Custom 742 with factory stub or SU nib. The one on the bottom is a Platinum Century #3776 with a C nib (double broad).

Hari, thanks for posting the link to your review of the Hei Long Jiang. Very informative!

Pelman, nice photo between the Pilot and the MB caps. I really appreciate the attention to detail these two companies have demonstrated.

Love that Parker vacumatic in the bottom photo, and I haven't seen a Carter before. Every other post here has another brand or model I'd never seen before. I love it!

Holdav, I love all the reflected gold light in your photo. I'm curious though, as someone who doesn't own a Pelikan, that the gold on your M200 looks so much more dull than the pens on the other side of the photo. Maybe it's just the light in the picture, but does the Pelikan's gold look that much different in real life?

Thanks for posting your collection of lovely black pens.

Three of my four pens fall into the black category:

L to R: Parker IM, Lamy Safari, Parker 45. The IM was my first "real" fountain pen, which I got as a gift this past Christmas. It writes nicely when it writes, but has some dry-out issues. The Safari came in the mail this week, and from now on is going to be my "carry everywhere" pen. The P45 (complete with 14k F nib) just arrived in the mail, and after doing some serious flushing ("looks like it's never been used" was not an entirely accurate description), I've got it up and running!

Hi Tom, Yeah, its not like that in real life its a very similar gold colour to the Sailor and Platinum on the other side., I'll have a look for my camera and sort out a better picture. I can only imagine that it's because it was close to the light source (the window) and was taken with my phone.

I pulled out most of my pens with black barrels (didn't pull the Watermans & other vintage ones that look entirely brown) - I noticed I have too many Sheaffer PFMs. I need to pare down my pens as I can't even use them all. The ones I'm using in rotation now are, one of the PFM IIIs (the best one with fine nib), the HomoSapiens, the 149, the Sailor Realo ProGear. I've found the rest aren't good enough or too much of a pain to clean-out to rotate through anymore.

NeelsK, The detail on that Dostoevsky is mesmerizing...wacko.gif

Thanks for posting more. You've got a beautiful collection thumbup.gif

Holdav, no worries. Just wanted to see how similar they were since the photo seemed to accentuate a difference that isn't really there. I use the HDR mode on my iPhone camera and it's always doing crazy things like that. Thanks again for sharing your collection cool.gif

pelahale, Thanks for posting your very expansive collection. Looks like they're about to commit mutiny against the computer! laugh.gif

Is that one on the right side a Newton micarta pen? It's enormous!

Also, I wish I was in a position to help you cull the pens you don't have room for. Looks like you've taken very nice care of all of them.

Happy writing, everyone
