with the color it looks like a nurses set but it does not have a black or red band and it does not have a thermometer. the case only has a spot for two pens as well. capped the pen is 4 5/8" long. posted the pen is 5 5/8" long

the nib is a plain waterman ideal 14k. the plastic looks thin and all the metal on the cap of the pen has corrosion. the pen overal feels like a cheepo, especially for waterman

the body is broken where the pen is threaded but i was thinking of resacking it and shellacking the pen closed since the threading still works. other than where it is broken now it does not appear to be in danger of any more damage, i think it was from someone opening the barel without heating it.

I haven't ever devoted a lot of attention to the nurse pens, but my impression (probably largely based on this thread) is that they were made in several different variations. At any rate, I have a pen very similar to the one you show and have always thought of it as a nurse pen. BTW, you might want to try "solvent welding" the break with MEK--it would be kind of touchy work but would potentially yield a more usable pen.

I had the good fortune to talk to Lisa Anderson at the Dallas pen show about these pens. Apparently the color chips on the tops of these pens wasn't just there for decoration or to denote an ink color in the barrel. Apparently the different colors of ink were key in proper charting reflecting which shift did what. I think it is really cool. Nurses have all kinds of special codes and symbols they use on files. As a criminal defense lawyer it took me years to finally get a nurse to tell me what a circle with a dot in the middle meant... Still cracks me up.

It means the person was not very nice on intake but in much more strident, pedestrian and somewhat vulgar anatomical terms. :roflmho:

Munsonpens.com has a picture of a pen that looks very similar, if not identical to yours and calls it a Nurse's Pen. See it at http://munsonpens.wordpress.com/tag/waterman-pen-company/
