Montblanc 139

I recently purchased a Montblanc 139 with a steel nib with the long window but it does not have a number shown on the pen like several pens that I have seen with L 139 or 139 G clearly shown.Could you please advise when numbering started on the 139 or is it only certain models that have this numbering & what does the G stand for.

It's my understanding that the G stands for a German word meaning smooth. As in the barrel surface is smooth. I think it's glakstad or some such word. Someone who is more learned on these pens please feel free to correct me. (Maybe Tom over at penboard de ).

A picture of your pen would help answer your question but as far as I know I have not seen a MB 139 without the "139" imprint on the blind cap of the pen. I have seen many examples that did not have the nib size imprint but always had the model number imprinted on the pen.

Congratulations, you own my dream pen.

All 139s that I have seen, display 139, or 139G imprinted on the piston knob. On the opposite side of the knob is the nib size imprint, F, M, B, etc, occasionally an "O". Just forward of the knob, there is often a patent imprint, or DRP number. As noted above the "G" stands for "glatt", or gloss.

This pen was purchased from Erfobay & Monica assures me that this pen is a genuine war time 139 even though it does not appear to have 139 on the pen.I suppose it is possible that due to wartime this could have occurred.

If any other member has heard of a similar omision I would be interested to hear.

I am unsure as how to add a picture but if you go to eBay & put in montblanc 139 & completed items you will see it there .It should be the last sale as I bought it only 2 weeks ago (it is the pen with the steel nib).

Is it the one sold for $2025 from erfobay? Based on the pictures I am pretty sure the pen is genuine. BTW, that is a great price even with a steel nib.

I would appreciate it if you could elaborate on this as I have purchased 2 pens & I feel both were honestly described & postage was reasonable & fast.Monica also has very good feedback from many clients who have purchased expensive pens.I admit to being a novice but surely not all her clients are like me

I realize sometimes her pens are not described well, but I have never seen a misleading one. I may be wrong here, but I personally haven't seen any that were directly misleading.

just to be brief- she is great at taking back pens that are not as described, have imperfections not captured in her photos, leaking, not functioning.

I think these problems happen frequently, which is why some people here won't bid.

There are other issues as well but PM me if you want more info to take it offline.

 

Would I buy a $400 pen from her? Sure

Would I buy a 139 or Octavian- not so much

did she say for your 139 there were no imprints specifically?

I'm not an expert on 139s, by any means, but having seen the pen, I'm envious. It is outstanding.

The long, green, ink window is a feature I have not seen before, on a 139, and might have made me somewhat nervous about the complete authenticity of the pen. Two of my wartime Montblanc pens have green ink windows. But, all of my dealings with Monica have been more than satisfactory, and she is one of the rare eBay sellers to deliver excellent after sales service.

Hopefully someone like Max will offer his expertise.

If those pics look genuine (and I don't doubt that), why doesn't it have "139" engraved on the blind cap (which isn't visible in the pics)? Weren't all 139's engraved that way?
