What Happens When You Give A Pen Away

Well, my boyfriend was the recipient of one of the pens I did not like to use - a pretty nice Jinhao x450, which was too heavy for me.

So... he apparently decided to get me another pen :)

A Muji pen :) :cloud9:

It is very smooth, very clean looking, the aluminum has an otherworldly silvery shine, next to my other pens(yellow Lamy safari, red Pilot 78G, black Duke, shiny green Picasso) it looks positively futuristic.

I absolutely love it. :cloud9:

The nib is hard and writes a fine line, as my fine Pilot, I suppose this will be extra fine in western nibs.

It came with a cartridge with shiny very black ink.

I searched online for converters to use with it, and somebody said that in the Japanese forums people say that they are using Pelikan converters with it. It seems that Schneider converters fit in pelikans too, so I may try with either of them, when i finish the cartridge.

I am at work, and I can't contain my excitement with the pen. I think today everything will be written with it. :D

I got one for myself about a month ago. A very nice pen, and yes, with a nail for a nib that is very smooth, and writes about the same as my XF Parker 25, width wise. I can confirm that a Schmidt K5 international converter works well in it, where as the green Monteverde internatinoal converter is a tad looser fitting. Have fun with it!

Well, the boyfriend is a keeper. The reviews of those pens have been good, glad you like it.

I have one unused Picasso pen converter, I wonder if it will fit too. I cannot check now, as the cartridge is still inside, and I am worried about removing it and making a mess, but I could try that before buying a another.

I keep the pen at work and write everything with it, and the black shiny ink from the fine nib makes a great contrast with the 1.1 stub of Lamy safari, inked with Pelikan brilliant green. I have never been more diligent to write down everything that needs or not to be jotted. :roflmho:

He is, isn't he :cloud9:

We had looked at the reviews of the pen online together, and decided that we should get one one day. He just had the idea of getting it for me before I had decided I really wanted it.

I really like it, it is cool in both senses, as look, and to the touch, i keep putting it on the table, then taking it again in my hands. Is everyone like this with new pens?

I'm like that even with old pens.

Nice pen. Apparently not for sale at Muji Europe.

Judging from the pics on their website this is the standard short international cartridge.

My boyfriend got it from a Chinese shopping site (taobao) it's like ebay. Yesterday we went to the Muji store downtown to see if they'll have the pen there too, and they did not. We got a brush pen, unfortunately non-refillable, but it was cheap, and it is ...interesting...to write with it.

The fountain pen shows up on their website, but I cannot find a way to buy from there. It's probably available only in some stores.

Could it be found on ebay in Europe, or through japanese resellers?

Ah, TaoBao! When I'm back in Malaysia, I sometimes purchase a few stuff from that site, but use an agent to ship it back here. It's expensive, but the cost savings on that site kinda evens it up. I mean, where else can you get a set of 10 Hero 616s for less than 10 RMB/ < USD 2 ?

Taobao is an addiction... its name means kinda "treasure hunt" and it certainly it is. You can find almost anything there, and I end up buying so much stuff on it... Being in China means delivery is really cheap, or free. Just these few days I got 1) a parker vector "world time zones" edition, 2) a purse, 3) a new cable for my ipod, 4) large pack of biscuits for office snacks, 5) a hat, 6) some danish brie cheese, 7) recharge card for my mobile.

It's just so easy to click buy...

And all the pens! All the heros, dukes, kaigelus, wingsungs, montblancs (fake and not), lamis, etc... Unfortunately there are no esterbrooks, and no affordable vintage pens.

Though there are TONS of vintage chinese pens, I am just not sure what to make of them.

I got one from a friend who collected it directly from a Muji in Japan. I like mine too, and all the moreso because the model name is apparently "Aluminum Round-bodied Fountain Pen"; how delightfully literal! I see it still appears on the US website.

Ravensmarch Pens & Books
It's mainly pens, just now....

Oh, good heavens. He's got a blog now, too.

Having become a Muji fan, mainly because of this FP but also due to some other interesting Muji items I've found over the years, and seeing as the only Muji stores in North America are located in New York (they have 3!), I thought it prudent to visit these stores while we were on vacation there last month. My main intent had been to find the matching BP and MP for this FP, but unfortunately all three stores were out of stock on all three items with the clerk telling me that the BP and MP were due to be restocked in about a week (too late for me, just my luck...) but that the FP was discontinued..... so if you really want one and you happen to see one on 'the bay', or here on FPN where I got mine, I suggest you buy it, as I think these could become scarce.

- on a side note, these Muji stores were great! Like a mini japanese IKEA! carrying everything from pillows, to slippers, to recycled paper. Even though they didn't have what I wanted we ended up spending over $100 on some very cool stuff. My wife especially liked the Penguin Skittles she found, and I got good use of many of their plastic storage containers.
