I bet you'd get a boost of confidence if you saw my handwriting!

Heh, I took a look at your blog and your handwriting looks great! When I get home, I might scan some notes and post it in another thread to show you guys.

Thank you very much Pokerman.

This will be my first sheaffer pen.

I wasnt sure whether i was eligible for your draw. As i had written to you in my PM, i had received pens as PIFs before. But, i have made it as a point to re-PIF my earlier ones with every new entry.

And am very thankful for considering me in the draw.

Congrats!

Long-time lurker coming out of the woodwork as it were. As I just passed a small, but important career milestone with flying colors and (as a reward) my wife is treating me to one of my "grail pens", I decided that I would celebrate by doing a PIF of my very first FP. It started my interest in FPs, but it has remained unused for well over a decade and I'm not a terribly sentimental type. So, I'm putting up here a late 1990s Pilot Vanishing Point in blue carbonesque with a medium 18K nib. Included is the original converter (it has a very slight blue stain), the original box, and four Pilot cartridges black ink. These look full still, but its possible some evaporation has occurred over the years. I have not tested this with ink, but it was put away clean so I expect it to work just fine. It was always a very smooth writer for me -- I stopped using it only because I found I couldn't live with the clip near my fingers. (Having bratwurst for digits is a tribulation, not least because my dogs keep wanting a taste.)
There are some conditions for this PIF:
1. If you decide not to keep this pen in the future, you MUST also PIF or give it away to someone who is new to FPs; you cannot sell the pen.
2. You must not have a collection of high-end pens already. Preferably, I would like this to go to someone who is new to FPs and would use it often (e.g., a student, a teacher) and who has been prevented from trying a VP simply because of the price.
3. I will happily pay for US postage, but if you live overseas, I ask that you cover postal costs, preferably via Paypal. I will pack it up and get a shipping quote and wait for Paypal to clear before shipping. I will mark it as a "gift" for international shipment, because that is what it is, but you are responsible for any customs duties (or bribes) that your government entity sees fit to levy.
Obviously, I have no way of enforcing these, but I ask that you respect my wishes and I suspect that the good users of FPN will do so. The honor system seems healthy here.
I will accept requests for the pen via PM until next weekend and then will use a random number generator to pick the recipient.
Finally, my apologies for the dodgy pics. A product photographer I am not.

<snip>

That pen looks beautiful, I'm amazed you want to give it away. I'd love to try out a VP, but I've already picked up a few quality pens around that same price range, so I can clearly afford it. I hope it goes to somebody who will enjoy it.

Wow, that is indeed a gorgeous pen. I'm also amazed you'd want to give it away.

I've been a lurker on FPN for a bit as well, but have just recently become truly enamored with fountain pens. My current 'collection' consists of..... a Lamy Al-Star! I'm a law student and have found that I write pages and pages and pages of notes each day, and using a 'quality' writing implement (i.e. a fountain pen ;) ) makes even the simple act of taking notes something to be excited about.

Anyways, I'll shoot you a PM. This community really is something special....

Congratulations on your promotion. It is very generous of you to offer this PIF.

I don't qualify for this PIF as i can afford this pen but good luck to all the participants.

That is a super sweet PIF. Wouldn't be able to convince you to swap for my plain black VP would I? Damn VP Carbonesque finishes are freaking nice. It's what I originally wanted to get but was too pricey so I opted for the plain black. Whoever the winner is will be one lucky/happy member that's for sure!

PLEASE NOTE

I did not think to mention the Christmas/Winter Poetry/Prose Writing Competition I am running on the VPP Facebook Page or my own Blog alc3261.wordpress.com

Write out a short passage of prose or poetry on a seasonal (northern hemisphere!!) theme in "nice" handwriting (any style is acceptable).

Scan or photograph it and post it to the VPP Conpetition Thread or in reply to the Competition post on my Blog.

Judging will be on Christmas Eve.

Multiple entries are fine.

The Prize is your choice of colour/nib in a Parson's Essential (kindly donated by Peter Ford aka Mr Pen!!) :)

Alc3261, do people have to be a member of VPP to qualify for that? In order to post on the Virtual Pen Posse group page you do have to join.

If that's the case, who were those men in suits who showed up at my door the other day? :P

Hey! You're not allowed to talk about those men in black suits :ninja: !

I have been on an Esterbrook acquiring streak as of late and now find myself with several duplicates. Since I've thoroughly enjoyed & learned so much from this great forum, I figured it was time to pay back a little...so, here goes:

This PIF is for anyone who's interested in Esterbrook pens, but has not acquired one yet. I will pass along one J model pen that interests you (SJ, LJ, J) and will try my best to accomodate your color preference. I also have a copper Icicle and a pastel pink purse pen if one of those strikes your fancy.

Any pen you choose has been completely disassembled then meticulously cleaned before reassembling, with a new sac, to ensure flawless performance. As for appearance, I can leave the pen in its natural state or give it the Mother of all Polish jobs (or somewhere in between - up to you). I also have several nib sizes available and will get your preference before sending.

There are a few stipulations that I trust the good members here will follow:

1. You must not currently own an Esterbrook

2. If you do not like the pen, you will PIF

3. It would be nice to see a written review after using the pen (not mandatory)

4. This one isn't mandatory, either but I'd like to know why you're interested in Esterbrooks. Upon learning about them, I decided I didn't care for these pens at all...until I received one in a lot of pens I purchased and repaired it. Then I was hooked!

This PIF is open to all members worldwide and I will cover shipping. PM me and I will assign a number to each response in the order received then use a random number generator to pick a winner. I will leave this open until midnight (U.S. Eastern time) 23 Nov.

That is definitely a great PIF. sadly, I don't qualify as I already have a modest collection of Esties. I encourage anyone who hasn't tried one to do so. They are awesome and I am hooked.

Beautiful pens! I didn't even know 'VP' (after a bit of googling I figured out VP stood for 'Vanishing Point' :D) pens existed!

Seconded. I participated in the Estie loaner program and was given the first Estie I ever used - the person who loaned it to me would not take it back but insisted I keep it. Since then, I bought several more, and while the main focus of my collection is changing, I still enjoy these, and am in fact part of the loaner program as a loaner. So if you're interested you could head on over to the Esterbrook forum and look up the loaner thread...

Your generosity amazes. I don't qualify as I have a J. And to give people their choice of color and nib? Good for you!!

For those who haven't tried an Estie, this is a good way to do so.

Ah, I'm hearing a lot of good word about these 'Esterbrooks', so I'll check those out in the future. Not going to participate in this Esterbrook PIF since I've already applied to another one and I don't want to be greedy. This opportunity is going to be someone else's!
