Pay It Forward 2013

I'm fairly new here, so I hope I do this right.

A while back I bought a lot of miscellaneous pens and kept the ones I could clean up and wanted. Most of the rest are not great, but three of the pens have Sheaffer 14K nibs and I would hate to see those go to waste. I don't think the pens are great, but someone who is better at this stuff than I am might be able to use the nibs. Pictures of the pens and nibs are below.

The nib on the maroon (left) pen says Sheaffer's 33, made in USA, 14K

The middle (blue) one doesn't have a cap. The nib is two-toned and reads Sheaffer's, Feather Touch, 33, Made in USA, 14K

The right, brown stripey pen, is one I wanted to keep because it looks like it could be kind of a cool pen, but the repairs are beyond my skills. It looks like someone tried to glue the nib to the pen. It's kind of a pretty nib where the gold part wraps all the way around. It is two toned and says Sheaffer's, Lifetime, Patent No......, Made in USA 14K

I would love to know that the nibs go to someone who can use them rather than going to waste. I would only ask that you pay shipping and post something about how you used them. If they are turned around and sold for profit, donating some of that money back to the FPN would be awesome.

PM me if you are interested.

Edit: I didn't expect any interest, but I already have two, so I will see if there are any more and do a drawing on Sunday.

Lisa

Apologies, I forgot to end this PIF. It went to bungyboy.

I have two one pocket FPs to give away. First come, first served.

This orange Wingsung has a bulb-filler, breather tube, breather hole, oversized and springy nib, and ebonite feed, all perfectly formed. You are eligible to enter so long as you will tinker with it until it writers perfectly, then use it frequently or give it away to someone who will. Please PM with Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy in the subject line to enter. Recipient pays shipping - a couple of bucks.

This one went to Letsdisinfect.

This NOS Golden Star is made of aluminium, and posts deeply and super-securely to become a much longer pen. You are eligible to enter unless you will waste it; you have received a PIF in the past year and have not PIFed since; or you have entered 70% or more of the PIFs since joining FPN, regardless of whether you won them. Please PM with The Great Gatsby in the subject line to enter. Recipient pays shipping - a couple of bucks.

If you meet the relevant criteria, you may enter both.

Ah these peak my interest, however it would cost well over 50$ to ship it to where I live, I think Ill leave it for someone located nearer to you.

It would only cost that much to sent a pen by a tracked service surely? Ordinary standard postage would be adequate for a PIF, I would think.

Well, I have done the drawing, but I have done something a little different than I planned. I had one person message me about the maroon pen because they needed it to fix a pen given to them by their grandfather. But they don't need the nib. So I am going to try and remove the nib, send them the pen and include the nib with the other two pens to the winner who is JoeCorey. I have sent both people PMs but if you see this first, PM me your address I will send them along this week.

This was fun. Thanks for letting me PIF!

I tried to PM You but since I had just sent two regarding my PIF It wouldn't let me. I would love to try out new papers and ink. I am still new enough with fountain pens that I haven't really figured out which I like best yet.

Bump--this time, with a photo (which insists on appearing upside down).

Do you like orange ink? Do you know an infant girl who would look cute in a hand-knit orange hat?

This is a slighly unusual PIF, but since autumn is here and orange is a good color for the season, I'm offering it up.

I have a hand-knit baby hat for a girl that I would like to give to someone who has a baby that can wear it or who would like to regift it. (I made this for a friend, but ended up giving a different gift, instead.) The hat is primarily orange, with bits of white and pink, and knit in my favorite lace pattern for hats. The hat fits children approx. 3-9 months old and is made with a cotton blend yarn.

The fountain pen connection? I am including a sample of Diamine pumpkin ink so that you can use it to write a gift card to go with the hat when you present it to the baby's parents.

This PIF is open to anyone in the US who has not won a PIF from me before. I hope that the winner will be able to pass this hat to someone who can use it immediately. Know someone having a baby in October? This would be a fun gift.

I am having trouble uploading the picture right now, so I have decided to give up on that. The hat itself will be a surprise.

To be considered:
-PM me. Please do not reply in this thread.
-Let me know how you are related to the baby who you will give this to. Mother? Friend? Uncle?
-Include your name and mailing address.
-If you're a knitter and can include a link to your favorite hat pattern, that would be a bonus. Not required, just fun.

I wasn't paying attention this week, and I bought two 30ml bottles of Diamine Coral instead of one. One is free to a good home in the UK - PM me with Diamine Coral in the title.

I would like to offer a Noodlers Ahab in Arizona as a PIF to FPN members. I purchased this pen a couple of years ago and found it takes too much time to adjust to my liking. I have not used it in over a year. AFAIK there is nothing wrong with it. I have not hacked the feed or made any other permanent change to the pen. The pen section and the barrel do have obvious stains on them from Noodlers BSB. I tried removing the stains with ammonia and bleach (separately of course) but without success. The original box and instructions are included. I will ship this worldwide at no cost to the winner.

I’d prefer this pen go to a member who doesn’t have an Ahab.

Please indicate your interest via private message. Next Sunday, October 27th, I will use random.org to generate a random number from the number of responses received. Thank you and good luck.

This pen has been claimed.

here is a pen that is interesting... a very small level filler, blue and white swirl, it almost looks like the sky on a summer day when the sky is blue and filled with the fluffy white clouds. The pen says "empire made" on the barrel and has a soft gold plated nib.

If you are interested, let me know by email falewis@yahoo.comand I will send it to you. This pen has been claimed.

I'd like to offer a set of paper and rings from Myndology. This is the same as the Circa/Arc system

All paper is A5, and the rings are 3/4".

2 sets of lined paper and one packet of gridded paper.

Ideally this will go to someone who has not yet used the Circa/Arc system.

Please PM me if you are interested and let me know what you'd like these for.

Pelikan 405 is not included! Just for size.

Its about time I gave something back to the great community here besides restoration and info. Our fellow FPN member Arandur gave me a Sheaffer Agio because he didn't like the nib on it. I've ground it to a Fine/Medium Italic, and it now writes smoothly with a bit of line variation. I've decided to PIF after asking Arandur if he would like the pen back with the newly ground nib. He passed and said I can keep or sell it. Since it didn't cost me anything I would rather PIF here.

Three terms for this PIF:

1. You can't enter if you've won previous PIF pens.

2. You're new to fountain pens, and you're on a budget or don't have money to get a pen you like.

3. You can't sell the pen. You either PIF and let a newbie try out the pen or give it to a friend that you're trying to convert to fountain pens.

Sort of 4. Have to be in the USA, and you pay shipping of $3. I'll ship First Class packed well in a bubble envelope.

Here's how to enter. PM me with why you should get this pen. No half ass answers, but nothing to lengthy either. A paragraph or two will be perfect. I'll do a random draw of 30 people. Check back here within a few days to know who the winner is, because I will not keep the pm's since I conduct business on the FPN classifieds, and it will be easier for me to keep track of PM's outside of this contest.

When you receive the pen I'd like to see a written message to the board(don't address it towards me) something like the "Don't Just Tell Us About The Pen You're Using, *show* Us!" thread would be perfect.

Pic of the pen is taken off Amazon with a retail price of $70. Keep in mind the pen you'll be getting is used, but not abused, has a custom Italic grind, and will come with a squeeze converter ready for bottled ink.
