Thanks for that link, yes I was hoping to score a software that would tell me if a number is prime, but this is nice too.

Bookmarked that site!

The site Cyber6 linked to does check primes, but it can only handle numbers so large. I'll be using http://primes.utm.edu/curios/includes/primetest.php , which is the only site I've found that can check as far as the 10^12th prime. If you dig around primes.utm.edu , you can also find the app I used to generate my random prime in the first place.

New PIF

After a little while away from the PIF thread I'm back!!

So :-

An A5 pad of Tomoe River Paper is up for grabs.

For someone who hasn't tried it before please, someone who couldn't afford to buy it and someone who has not previously won a PIF (especially one of mine).

Anyone from anywhere considered!!

This will run for about a week.

Not much interest in this PIF?

I'm in a silly mood, so here is a silly PIF.

I have a recently emptied ink bottle that I would like to give away. I know, and empty bottle, but hear me out. This is an empty vintage Sheaffer Skrip bottle, the kind with the built in ink well that is optimal for so many, from dip pen users to folks who have half-full 4.5 oz Noodler's bottles that are hard to fill from. It looks like the open bottle in this pic, but empty and without a label:

http://dirck.delint.ca/beta/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/skripbots.jpg

Now it gets silly:

I have chosen a random prime number between two and ten to the twelfth (one trillion). Whoever PMs me within the next week (exactly) and submits exactly one guess in the form of a single prime number (members who submit more than one prime number or any number of non-prime numbers will be ineligible) will win the bottle, so long as no other eligible member submits a number that is closer in magnitude to the prime I have selected.

If you have any questions about the rules, please PM me--though you should make sure that your question does not include any non-prime numbers or multiple prime numbers as that could inadvertently disqualify you.

Best of Luck,

sethk

All right everybody, last call for entries. I've got 10 entries (all valid) so far, but there's still time for more and plenty more primes to guess. I'll keep accepting entries until midnight tonight, Central Standard Time (UTC/GMT -5 hours). Best of luck, everyone.
