Pay It Forward 2013

Plume, I hope I didn't come across as "tense". I was just trying to make it very clear that no matter what your intent, you cannot trade anything in this thread. That's kind of the point, paying it forward, not getting something in return (or getting paid back). I apologize if I came across a little harsh.

Not tense, but remember the FPN changes a few months ago, and this thread went missing from its usual location?

That was because of the perception that it was a trading thread. And it was not easy to have it returned to where people can easily find it.

I would like to give this to someone relatively new, say, fewer than 50 posts.

CONUS only, the shipping internationally isn't worth it.

The Give-Away: Esterbrook Safari Pump Filler, light blue, steel cap, 2668 medium nib with apparently plenty of tipping (these are rolled tipping). Used, of course, decent shape, and I just tested it, so it works. Doesn't hold a lot of ink. You unscrew the blind cap on the end of the barrel, pull the knob back then push it forward with the nib in the ink, and leave it in the ink for about 10 seconds for the sac to suck in the ink.

There is a thread in the Esterbrook forum where Paul Hoban explains how this works.

Let's try second PM by a new person, fewer than 50 posts.

To put a limit on this, if I get a second response by Wednesday, 7/17/13, 12:00 AM EST, that will end it. I said second response in the first post on this, so I'll have to live with that. Otherwise, first response will get the pen.

We have a winner. The second reply was from Seiry, and so this PIF is done. Thanks to Redonna and Gump for their replies also.

Congratulations to Seiry. Lucky you. :D

And, as I was a recent PIF recipient of some ink samples I am going to PIF by passing some ink samples on.

I have nine black ink samples that I will pass on in three sets of three.
These are mostly from a sample pack I ordered from Goulet Pens before settling on a bottle of Lamy Black. There is very little used from any sample as I used a dip pen to see what they looked like on paper. I am also throwing in the two blacks from the Iroshizuku sample set I was PIF'd.
I don't know how many people (if any) will respond, but I hate to say the first three PM's because that means anyone not online at this point in time will never have a chance. So I will accept PM's for two days and then have a random number generator select 3 numbers - those corresponding PM's will be used to put together the three sets.
I will take the three randomly selected PM's in the order selected & try to give them their first preference. But, because more than one person may request the same sample I will allocate one sample in order of preference to each person and then return to the top to allocate the second sample and repeat for the final sample. (Hope that makes sense.)
When you send a PM, go ahead and list these samples in your preference order:
Noodler's Black
Noodler's Bad Black Moccasin
Platinum Carbon Black
Iroshizuku Take-Sumi
Noodler's Heart of Darkness
Sailor Kiwa-Guro Nano Black
Noodler's X-Feather
Noodler's Polar Black
Iroshizuku Yama-guri
* All I ask in return is that each person gives back with a future PIF. *
No additional stipulations such as student or newbie or anything else.

I got the ink samples!, they got here some days ago, but I was on holydays.

They look amazing! with this samples i've decided to get some noodler's ink. I really loved Apache Sunset, 54th Massachusetts, and Black Swan in Austrailan Roses.

Thanks!!!

I have found quite a few colors from Diamine that I absolutely love. Ancient Copper is just one example. ^_^

I received these today via DanielCoffey. I don't have an open pen at the moment to ink them up but as soon as I do I'll show it off. I'm super excited about these.

A big thank you to lady flash for the ink samples, beautiful colors and a wonderful note to go alongside them. Similarly, I would like to thank Pajaro for the wonderful Esterbrook J. I have inked it and am completely enamored with the pen. Scouring ebay this evening for additional nibs for it.

With the wonderful PIF gifts I have received, it is only appropriate that I reciprocate by offering the Noodlers Konrad pictured here. The pen functions well, but the flex nib does not suit me. As you see, the display window is a bit discolored despite my cleaning efforts.

Interested parties in the CONUS shoot me a PM and I will use a random number generator on Sunday evening to make a selection.

I'm in a silly mood, so here is a silly PIF.

I have a recently emptied ink bottle that I would like to give away. I know, and empty bottle, but hear me out. This is an empty vintage Sheaffer Skrip bottle, the kind with the built in ink well that is optimal for so many, from dip pen users to folks who have half-full 4.5 oz Noodler's bottles that are hard to fill from. It looks like the open bottle in this pic, but empty and without a label:

http://dirck.delint.ca/beta/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/skripbots.jpg

Now it gets silly:

I have chosen a random prime number between two and ten to the twelfth (one trillion). Whoever PMs me within the next week (exactly) and submits exactly one guess in the form of a single prime number (members who submit more than one prime number or any number of non-prime numbers will be ineligible) will win the bottle, so long as no other eligible member submits a number that is closer in magnitude to the prime I have selected.

If you have any questions about the rules, please PM me--though you should make sure that your question does not include any non-prime numbers or multiple prime numbers as that could inadvertently disqualify you.

Best of Luck,

sethk
