Pay It Forward 2013

I've been advised by a member that these sorts of swaps are better placed in the classifieds section, but unfortunately I'm not yet able to use that facility.

I guess I'll just have to wait, it's a shame because I've been jumping out of my skin with enthusiasm ever since the idea struck me.

Thanks,

That's good enough for me. I was just unsure because I want to do some swapping, instead of straight give-aways.

I'm not quite across the etiquette here and I don't want to intrude on this fabulous pay it forward concept. I think it fits in with the spirit of pay it forward because I want to share what I have and I also want to grow my interest.

I'll list my items soon, I need to organize some pictures.

Cheers.

If it is a straight want to trade(WTT) that has to be done in the classifieds...but you need at least 30 posts to list there. If it is a pay it forward (PIF) you can do it here. Sorry for any confusion from my earlier post

Brother, there is nothing to feel bad about here. You are far from alone, many people do this. It is about spreading the joy. Particularly to young people. It encourages others to use these fine instruments and beautiful inks. One of my first experiences on this board was when a kind benefactor sent pens to my then 14 y/o daughter as a result of my inquiry about such items. The affect of that generosity was quite spectacular on the development of her character. Some people prefer to do it by privately selecting recipients because, as has been shown by previous posts, now deleted, when people compete for items and do not receive they sometimes feel bad about it. The value of threads like this is to show to others that this is going on, that it is a part of the undercurrent of the fountain pen community.

Seems to me like doing something kind, privately instead of publicly, would be something to feel good about.

Yesterday, I gifted a Pilot Metropolitan to a good friend, along with 5 ink samples. He was BEYOND excited about it.

His exact words: "I'm a drinking problem away from being a real writer now!"

It felt good to see someone get excited about something that I've introduced to them. He wanted to know where he could get more ink, etc, etc. I think he's already hooked and he hasn't even inked his pen yet.

So a new PIF for a new week.

1. Parker IM Silver Medium Nib

fpn_1361551388__parker-im-fountain-pen-.jpg

2. Parker Jotter Fine Nib

fpn_1359893983__214a-ghzsal.jpg

The IM is not 3x the size of the Jotter!!

My usual rules apply:- No previous winners (unless applying for someone else), relative newbies to fountain pens with only a couple of pens (or none).

Please apply for one or the other pen, not both.

Please state your age and location. Students will get priority!!

Good Luck.

Giving this a bump - I will be drawing this tomorrow evening (UK time).

The winners are oldmatekev for the IM and Timh26 for the Jotter!!

PMs sent.

I've listed my pens in the classifieds section, as it happens today saw my 30th post and also my 30th day on the FPN, so now I qualify to list there.

Cheers.

Hey folks, I've been pretty inactive on the forums and on the VPP that a lot of you use, but I promise I'm still here! School has been an absolute killer. The amount of notes I write per day are giving my ink bottles and my pens a challenging go. Already went through two whole bottles of Noodler's Inks, and ruined 4 nibs (yay writing too fast with too much pressure because of nervousness!), but all that is just making me fall in love with FP's even more! :)

I'll be doing a big PIF in the coming weeks, I just need to get everything sorted. A few pens from the LA Pen Show that I didn't like, and maybe a bottle of ink or two. Stay tuned!

My private PIFs are the ones that are the most fun...when I can surprise someone it tickles the heck outa me:) I'm sure Cogs and a lot of you on here know what I mean.

Oh are they? Feel free to Private PIF me anytime you want to have some fun. roflmho.gif

I have had the opportunity to PIF to the teenage daughters of a couple of co-workers over the last several weeks, both of Pilot Varsity's. But I haven't yet had the opportunity to do so here. (or more accurately figured what I want to do for someone here)

Indeed. In fact, I am coming down to the last pages of what is the greatest letter writing pad I've ever used. It's magic in conjunction with my M800 Italic.

And private PIFs for the win! I've sent packages with pens, paper, and ink samples to both my sister in law and my younger sister, all unannounced. And, due to learning that my wee little niece was coveting the Pilot Metro I sent to my sister, I'm sending her the Nemosine that I got in a PIF here. Great pen, that, for an inexpensive alternative, and I'd use it at the office except that I think she'd enjoy it more.

Granted, none of these are FPN members, but I'm helping swell the global ranks :)

Got my roomate hooked, got him his first two pens (metro and a safari), and free samples of all my inks.

Swell the ranks.

VINTAGE PENS FOR SALE! Various brands all restored and ready to go! Check out the pics and let me know if you have any questions.

Agreed! I end up PIF-ing much more at school than I do on the forum. There are four more people on my campus who have caught the bug now!

Ain't fountain pen evangelism fun? :bunny01:
