2. Parker Jotter Fine Nib

fpn_1359893983__214a-ghzsal.jpg

The IM is not 3x the size of the Jotter!!

My usual rules apply:- No previous winners (unless applying for someone else), relative newbies to fountain pens with only a couple of pens (or none).

Please apply for one or the other pen, not both.

Please state your age and location. Students will get priority!!

Good Luck.

Hi, I am new! I don't have any pens yet and I was looking through this thread in hopes of finding a good place to start.

I am an 19 year old Creative Writing / English Literature double major at a private college in Rhode Island and my grandfather introduced me to fountain pens not too long ago. He actually created this account for me a while back knowing he was going to try to get me into fountain pens, haha, and once I showed interest he gave me my username and password. He is one of the coolest people I know, especially for an 87 year old (:

I don't know entirely how this works, but I would appreciate it so much, even if I don't win one of these pens, if you could help me learn the ropes around here and figure out how to really get started! Thanks so much!

For the PIFs, just send a PM. You can send a PM by clicking on the poster's name, it will take you to their profile and you can send a message there to be included in the PIF.

PIF posters have different "rules" for their PIFs. They are not all the same. Some only ship to CONUS (continental USA) or UK. Some will ship worldwide. Sometimes they will ask for other tasks to be able to participate in the PIFs, such as answering a question, sending a postcard, etc.

Alec's PIFs are straightforward. Most of her PIFs ship worldwide. You meet all her requirements, so go ahead, send her a message... may be you are one of the lucky ones.... I have not been lucky at all with FP PIF's, though got an ink one.... for which I need to post writing samples... (it will take me a while since I have been busy)....

May the luck be with you!

You can enter any PIF you qualify for, details are usually in the initial post but do ask if anything is unclear. To send someone a personal message (PM), you can click on the right-hand icon (the envelope) under their profile picture.

Don't bank on winning a PIF draw, do a few searches on here to find suggestions for inexpensive pens which might suit you. I'll get you started on that front, take a look at the Lamy Safari and Al-stars.

There are plenty of opinions on the forum for just about any mainstream pen you might come across and plenty of fringe ones too. It's sometimes easier to do a Google search on subjects and follow the links back here as I've found the FPN search function a little hit and miss.

Take some time to have a look around the forum, there's plenty to discover. Welcome to the world of fountain pens, they are a real source of joy and sometimes frustration, I hope you have a positive experience.

Up for grabs is an almost full bottle of Private Reserve Ebony Green. I like the color, and it writes well enough on most paper, but, I find it very smudgy on my (much preferred) B&R paper. I've filled a couple of pens with it, but, otherwise, the bottle is full, and I'm happy to ship it anywhere. I have no idea when I'll draw on who gets it, so, if you want it, holler quick!

Drawing is tonight... you want in, best be lettin' me know...

Be forewarned... I will eye-bang the bejeezus out of your pens...

Unrelated to the ink, I'm going to put up a Rotring "Sumnother". It's an older 80's vintage; the nib has been smoothed and repaired by Binder's, Converter's included. It's a very light, slim pen with a fine-ish nib. I'll get a picture of it this evening and add that along - might even hold off till next weekend to pick a winner. I like the pen well enough, but, I just don't use it, and my interests are turning more towards other directions (hefty pens that fit my meathooks better)...

OK; patience is a virtue, and one of which I am in short supply right now... Drawing is tonight... you want in, best be lettin' me know...

Ive got a PIF

The pen in question is a brand new(well almost) Nemosine Singularity Demonstrator with an extra fine nib. For some reason, I decided to buy 2 of the exact same pen from xfountainpens.com so I could get free shipping .-.

I've inked the pen once (well barely. I twisted the converter and stopped it right as the ink started entering the converter just to test out the pen) and it works fine. I just don't know what I would do with it. There are cracks on the cap, but that is a known issue with the Singularity and it shipped like that.

It can use standard international cartridges and it comes with the included converter, but I hear you can also use it as an eyedropper. However, the threads for the barrel and the cap are kinda right next to each other so you might want to be careful. Sometimes I end up unscrewing the barrel instead of the cap.

Right now I'm still in school and finals are coming up, so I think I'll end the PIF on 3/24, when my spring break starts (Who decided to make finals from tuesday to saturday? >.<)

PM me to enter, and I'll randomly draw a winner at the end.

PS.

Even after you win, it might take a while to ship while I figure out how to ship it .-. I've got no supplies (for now)

edit: I can only ship to the USA, sorry. CONUS participants only.

Just bringing this back up in case anyone hasn't seen it. A little over a week left and I've got 6 entries atm

Ending in two days!

I'll be drawing this 9:00pm PST or midnight EST

Hello Everyone,

I am a newbie to fountain pens and to the FPN and this is my FIRST PIF, however, I have already been the recipient of a PIF and I wanted to pay it forward myself as soon as possible. I saw the PIF listed recently by Craig Forsyth and I thought it was a wonderful idea to make a pen holder! Since I am new I didn't have much to offer in the way of a pen, so I thought a homemade pen holder would be the perfect idea.

As you can see it's nothing spectacular, especially since my sewing machine and I had a falling out during its making, but it is useful and soft. It can hold three pens and there is also a slightly larger space for things such as ink cartridges or converters. Additionally, it has a Velcro closure.

This PIF is open worldwide and all I ask is for anyone interested to PM me; please tell me why you would be the best new owner of this PIF, along with your age and location. I will be drawing the winner within the next two weeks.

Thank you to all on the FPN for the wonderful generosity! I am glad I can now be a part of it.

It's great to see more people having a go at making these. Nice wrap and a great way to run a PIF whe you've little in the way of funds and few pens.

Thank you to you for the inspiration you gave me! Not too much interest yet though...so join in, your chances of winning are great right now.

Thanks for the invitation but I'll stay out of your draw as I already have a wrap (in fact I have a few now) and I'd like someone else to have the chance of winning yours.

That's kind of funny...the invite was meant for anyone seeing the reply to enter, but thank you for giving others a chance anyway.

Dark. That's all he could see through the haze of exhaustion and too many glasses of Pinot Grigio. He was convinced there were other things out there - stars, traffic maybe, even the ocean. But, he was on holidays and none of that mattered. All that mattered was that his kids were asleep in the bedroom, more family was joining him in the next 24 hours, and this was the best holiday on which he'd ever been.

Ok, I am approximately 3200 miles away from my pens, so it seems like a good time to give one away. I have been the recipient of a ton of generousity on this forum and, being on holidays, am in a dang good mood.

But, I am totally ripping off John Metta's idea. I want mail. In fact, I want you to handwrite me a short story - 6 words or 6000, I don't care. I love stories, and I want to read yours. Fiction, non-fiction, mystery, I don't care, honestly. I want to read your stories, and to encourage this, I'll give you a pen. This pen:

Pic one

Pic two

Hopefully those work. It is a fine, wet Guider Acrylic (with a press-bar filler). I have used it a couple times, blue inks both times, so the sac is stained purple (because that makes total sense). I'll make sure the rest of it is cleaned, shined, and as pretty as it was when I got it...which was very pretty.

If you'd like to be entered, please PM me. I'll give you my address, to which you can send your story. I will draw on April 1, 2013 from all the mail I have actually received, so don't delay.

Just bumping this up so people who may not have seen it get the chance...

Last bump since I got some more entries last time around. Plus, you only have a month left until I draw - and remember, I have to have your handwritten story in my hand by April 1 or you don't qualify!!!

Ok, so, I just realized that April 1 is a holiday, as is the Friday before...so, the mail won't come until Tuesday. I have only received eight of the many who requested my address. I am extending this ONE day. I'll be drawing after the mail comes on Tuesday, April 2. If you're so inclined, you may still be able to get an entry in!

Harlequin, you should go to vegas with luck like yours.

I dunno. He may not be a Vegas type. I am! Last time I was out there, I broke even. LOL
