Pay It Forward 2013

Hi fellow FPN members,

For PIF 2013:

Trying to thin the herd. Inks that just aren't for me, and rather than dump & re-use the bottles, hoping that someone may be interested:

1-30ml Diamine Imperial Blue (couple mls taken)

1-30ml Diamine Twilight (practically full)

1-30ml Diamine Coral (practically full)

1-30ml Pelikan Black in box (say 80% full, ink level just below neck)

*** All spoken for 18:20 17/3/2013 ***

Didn't think they'd go so quickly!

Happy to send any/all to anyone in the UK 2nd Class.

PM me if interested.

Kind regards...

Okay I have a PIF for you. Actually, as I've experienced a huge amount of generosity in my couple of months on FPN, I guess it's more of a 'pay it back'.

I don't have a huge number of pens so giving one of them away wasn't really an option. I also don't have lots of money but I did have a little time to spare and the materials to create this.

It's a hand-sewn pen wrap, made specifically to give away, so I hope plenty of people will like it enough to throw their hats into the ring. Here are a few photos:

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8382/8558455319_9ffed1318a_b.jpg

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8380/8558455389_1069016660_b.jpg

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8100/8559564138_baf3853227_b.jpg

As you can see it has five slots, each of which can accommodate a decent-sized pen (the pens pictured are not included, I hasten to add).

The PIF is open to anyone, anywhere, with no conditions, though quite a lot of time and effort went into making this so I hope you’ll be willing to put in a little effort of your own.

I'm going to follow John Metta's example from earlier this year and ask people to send me a hand-written note - that can be of any length, on any scrap of paper and about anything.

Ideally I'd like to receive some mail, as all I seem to get through the letterbox these days is bills, but if you really can't afford that then please take a pic of your note and PM it to me.

If you're willing to send me something through the post, please don't forget to include your FPN username, otherwise I won't be able to add you into the draw. Please PM me and I’ll provide my address.

I'm going to set quite a long deadline on this so there's a chance for any overseas entries to reach me (yes, I'm ever the optimist). The draw will take place on Sunday, 4 May, giving you seven weeks which should be ample time for anyone.

All entries will go into a sack and the winner will be picked by my 21-month-old son, so you can rest assured it will be a totally random (and probably somewhat untidy) process.

Best of luck and thank you to everyone for all their help, advice and support, you've made my foray back into fountain pen use a very gratifying experience,

Craig.

The winning number was your third ballot buddy !!! You see, it pays to be polite and have good manners !!

Hey Dex138!

I received the pens around 4 days ago, but I haven't been able to post pictures or do a write up until today.

Thanks so much for this PIF!

Sorry I'm late folks! Consider this one of those 'delays for effect' . Everybody excited? Everybody nervous?

we have 18 entries.....

assigned each a number....

random.org'ed the results.......

and the winner is????????

RickH9!!!!

:clap1: :clap1: :clap1: :clap1: :clap1:

Congrats!!! PM me with your address and I'll get the package off to you right away.

Disclaimer - 24 hours to respond....blah blah blah.

Thanks to all who participated.

Offering up a couple of pens today to someone who is interested in those slightly different writing experiences.

- 2 Indian Eyedroppers -

- a red Usha Fosty Micro with an Arabic Italic nib,

- a navy blue Charter "997" reground to a right oblique by US nibmeister Vivek Narayanan

(special thanks to Maja for gifting these at Christmas)

Also included with the 2 pens will be a pipette for filling and 2 ink samples to fill them with - 5ml each of FPN inks Van Gogh Starry Night Blue and Dumas Tulipe Noir.

As my first 2 PIFs (last year) went to 2 very new FPNers and were consequently never heard from again..... I'd like these to go to someone with a little time in

- an FPN member for at least 6 month, with at least 10 posts,

- have the ability to post writing samples once you've received and inked them, (show us your stuff!)

- follow this PIF up with one of your own.

I'll leave this up for :hmm1: lets say, 5 days. I will random.org the entries on Wednesday morning and announce the winner!

PMs preferred.

Good luck to everyone!!! :P

ps - to clarify, both pens and inks are going to one winner - package deal.

I have a pen here id like to pay it forward with. It is a Lamy Safari in a navy/royal blue colour with a F nib, only been used with one Lamy cartridge before! I just cant get away with the triangular grip. I am happy to refil the empty cartridge that is in it with ink before posting. To quality you have to love pens :-) if you can afford to just go buy one for fun or dont need it though please state in your PM as it may help me choose who to send it to, PM me with your reason for wanting this pen and ill pick a winner when I have a few applications. UK only due to postage costs, though I may be tempted to post elsewhere. Id rather send my old pens to a good loving home than pop them in the bin or on ebay!

EDIT: Worldwide postage is £3.30/ US $5 so I can cover that for this one pen, I now pronounce this PIF worldwide :-D I am a uni student too, students I feel your pain when it comes to pens :-)

Winner: whitedot

Both 78G are claimed too (writing below is with Pilot 78G medium and Diamine Turquoise on awful lined paper). For the rest of the pens id like a few more entries :-)

Dear PIF folks:

Here is another small offering of items that I’m hoping might find a good home where they can be used (It’s not that this isn’t a good home, it’s just that these items aren’t getting any use). Here’s what I’ve got:

A no-name fountain pen, Fine nib marked “Iridium Point Germany”, but I think it’s of Chinese Manufacture. Uses International cartridges (one included). The cap and barrel are brushed stainless with gold clip & trim. I think this pen was wedding guest favor, as the cap is imprinted “Dana and Lorraine, 10/20/96”. The pen looks to be unused, although I did dip it to try it out. It would be a nice starter pen for someone new to fountain pens.

Two mechanical pencils: An Autopoint “Twinpoint” two-sided mechanical pencil. This pencil was made by the Autopoint Company in Chicago years ago; used, but in good working condition. The pencil has the name of a company imprinted on the barrel (very common with Autopoints) and uses 1.1mm lead. The second item is a Bankers mechanical pencil. The pencil is about 5” long, narrow (I would say about the diameter of a Cross Century pen/pencil) and uses .9mm lead. The cap and barrel are a ribbed chrome pattern. Used, but in good working condition.

An Esterbrook SJ fountain pen, grey in color with a 2668 steel nib. The SJ is the shorter model within the Esterbrook J series of pens, measuring 4 ¾ inches capped and just under 6 inches posted. This pen has a new sac installed and is ready to use.

Two “project” items: one is a Koh-I-Noor Rapidograph pen and the other is a Sheaffer pencil from the TM/Snorkel era. Neither is currently working, but for the money( $0), it might be worth seeing if you can get them to work.

To keep my mailing costs within reason, I can only ship to CONUS. I recognize these are somewhat “modest” items compared to some of the other items that have gone through PIF, but I would hope that they go to members who could actually use them. Send me a PM if you are interested.

Here's a write-up of Hero 329 nxn96 PIF'd me :)

post-96330-0-48902000-1363690098.jpg

P.S. The photo makes this violet seem blacker than it is; it's really a deep purple on the page.

I qualify, but I'm not going to enter since I prefer ultra thin pens (fine or xf) or italic nibs and someone else could use it better, however I'd like to thank you for giving out such great pens so regularly, it's a great service to the forum and I always look forward to seeing what you have up! Good luck to everyone.
