Pay It Forward 2013

Alright, so I have returned. I have a bunch of pens I don't really use, and would like to give one (right now) of them away to an FPN member. However, I don't really have the time to ship any, so if any of you guys are in the area of Berkeley, CA and can make your way to me, I'll throw Shaughn's Parker 25 your way- it is a nice pen, but it wasn't my cup of tea. I am really stuck on my Pilot 78Gs. I can also throw an ink sample of Private Reserve American Blue your way.

The pen is now in the hands of heyva, who was nice enough to give me a Hero 330 and a couple of ink samples.

I received earlier today (in person!) a lovely Parker 25 and ink sample from the friendly and articulare Quarzac, so I'm adding a PIF to the mix: when I'm traveling, I like to buy pens and paper goods of brands I've never seen before.

During a recent trip to Prague, I picked up a school-style fountain pen with a neat textured grip. The brand is centropen and it's manufactured in the Czech Republic.

The pen I'm PIF-ing is a centropen pluto that has a green section, and a small hairline crack at the end of the barrel, where it screws in. (This doesn't affect its functionality, but it turns out that its construction is a bit delicate.) I'll include a couple of cartridges. This is what's particularly awesome about the centropen cartridge ink: it's erasable (or at least it claims to be; I haven't tried to erase it.) Not sure what standard the cartridges are (for future replacement, but you could always refill used cartridges with a syringe.)

To make this fun: in your PM, give me an idea for an international trip to take (where, when, how, and why); keep it short (1-2 sentences.) The winner will be either the response that's the farthest distance from anywhere I've visited, unless someone suggests (and this is unlikely) somewhere that I've actually lived. (If that happens, that entry will win.) If I receive duplicate suggestions of places, the most interesting reason to visit will be the deciding factor.

PMs only, please, as I won't read responses directly to the board. US/Canada only.

Edit: I'll leave this open until Friday or so.

Sounds like an interesting pen! Erasable ink eh? Whoever grabs this pen up should definitely write up a review! I'd love to see how it erases.

PIF'd one of my Varsity's to a co-worker for her daughter who is showing some interest. The blue one this time. Leaves the black one for me.

I PIF'd my Esterbrook Demi Dollar Pen to a buddy of mine retiring from the military. I gave him several Diamane ink samples to get him going, he is very happy.

This is after he has been seeing me using FPs around the office, and I have gifted a Kaweco Sport to him several weeks back, so he could test the waters, he jumped in the deep end!

The Demi is a nice pen but I am not thrilled to have to post pens and he has small hands so it seemed the right thing to do!

By demi you mean an SJ right? Or do you mean a "purse pen"?

By Demi I mean Demi :) It is actually a tad smaller than an SJ but represents what an SJ is in the J family in the Dollar Pen family...EDIT for helpful info...

Richard Binder's Website on Estie Dollars

Too be fair it was technically an H Dollar Pen...see Mr. Binder's site for the rest :)

This photo is of a J, SJ and the H (demi or small) Dollar Pen

Is "Demi" an official Esterbrook term? I've never heard of it being used for Esties, that's why I asked...

No as I stated above: Too be fair it was technically an H Dollar Pen (H being the designation for 'demi or small' (Mr. Binder's words)) Sorry for confusion...

At least with the "purse pens", the H is the designation for the pen having a clip. I was under the impression that was the only meaning Esterbrook used for it (the purse pens have both C and CH models, C is clipless).

I'm no expert or authority, I just read it on Richard's site, he is my go to resource...

I wonder if there is any "official documentation" floating around on stuff like this- not just Esterbrook, but other brands that seem to have differing or conflicting names- or even worse, no "official" name that most people can resort to.
