Pay It Forward 2013

Is the frock shaped card in the foreground an entry ? that looks cute

It was, coming in as my second favorite, immediately behind the charming children's story of the cobbler and the elves.

Wow, I'm stoked that you liked the story and really impressed you could read my handwriting. To be honest, the possibility of winning a pen quickly became a secondary concern once I realised what I wanted to send - so congratulations Cyber6.

As I think I mentioned in the letter, it was my favourite story as a child and my 21-month-old son now loves listening to it, though he's clearly no idea what most of it means yet.

It's great to see so many hand-written letters in one place, such a rare sight these days.

Honestly, I considered buying a pen I don't want, specifically to do another write-in PIF. It really was a wonderful experience.

Tgipiff. Thank goodness it's pay it forward friday.

I have three sets...so there can be three winners

Each set is a notebook (size a5 64pg) and a disposable fountain pen.

The notebooks have a plastic cover and a retro flower design. (They are from dasios...)

There are three pens one black varsity, a blue varsity, and a black.

Due to shipping costs....conus only.

And I wanna read your best, clean-ish, joke.....top three win...extra points if I can see it in your handwriting. (If the joke is from your kid please let me know so I can keep that in mind durning judging.

I am new to the world of fountain pens...and I have just discovered that my handwriting may needs to be kicked up a notch and I need a few ideas of fonts people are really writing in.

Dark. That's all he could see through the haze of exhaustion and too many glasses of Pinot Grigio. He was convinced there were other things out there - stars, traffic maybe, even the ocean. But, he was on holidays and none of that mattered. All that mattered was that his kids were asleep in the bedroom, more family was joining him in the next 24 hours, and this was the best holiday on which he'd ever been.

Ok, I am approximately 3200 miles away from my pens, so it seems like a good time to give one away. I have been the recipient of a ton of generousity on this forum and, being on holidays, am in a dang good mood.

But, I am totally ripping off John Metta's idea. I want mail. In fact, I want you to write me a short story - 6 words or 6000, I don't care. I love stories, and I want to read yours. Fiction, non-fiction, mystery, biopic, I don't care, honestly. I want to read your stories, and to encourage this, I'll give you a pen. This pen:

Pic one

Pic two

Hopefully those work. It is a fine, wet Guider Acrylic (with a press-bar filler). I have used it a couple times, blue inks both times, so the sac is stained purple (because that makes total sense). I'll make sure the rest of it is cleaned, shined, and as pretty as it was when I got it...which was very pretty.

If you'd like to be entered, please PM me. I'll give you my address, to which you can send your story. I will draw on April 1, 2013 from all the mail I have actually received, so don't delay.

Just bumping this up so people who may not have seen it get the chance...

Dear PIF folks:

Here is another small offering of items that I’m hoping might find a good home where they can be used (It’s not that this isn’t a good home, it’s just that these items aren’t getting any use). Here’s what I’ve got:

A no-name fountain pen, Fine nib marked “Iridium Point Germany”, but I think it’s of Chinese Manufacture. Uses International cartridges (one included). The cap and barrel are brushed stainless with gold clip & trim. I think this pen was wedding guest favor, as the cap is imprinted “Dana and Lorraine, 10/20/96”. The pen looks to be unused, although I did dip it to try it out. It would be a nice starter pen for someone new to fountain pens.

Two mechanical pencils: An Autopoint “Twinpoint” two-sided mechanical pencil. This pencil was made by the Autopoint Company in Chicago years ago; used, but in good working condition. The pencil has the name of a company imprinted on the barrel (very common with Autopoints) and uses 1.1mm lead. The second item is a Bankers mechanical pencil. The pencil is about 5” long, narrow (I would say about the diameter of a Cross Century pen/pencil) and uses .9mm lead. The cap and barrel are a ribbed chrome pattern. Used, but in good working condition.

An Esterbrook SJ fountain pen, grey in color with a 2668 steel nib. The SJ is the shorter model within the Esterbrook J series of pens, measuring 4 ¾ inches capped and just under 6 inches posted. This pen has a new sac installed and is ready to use.

Two “project” items: one is a Koh-I-Noor Rapidograph pen and the other is a Sheaffer pencil from the TM/Snorkel era. Neither is currently working, but for the money( $0), it might be worth seeing if you can get them to work.

To keep my mailing costs within reason, I can only ship to CONUS. I recognize these are somewhat “modest” items compared to some of the other items that have gone through PIF, but I would hope that they go to members who could actually use them. Send me a PM if you are interested.

Offering up a couple of pens today to someone who is interested in those slightly different writing experiences.

- 2 Indian Eyedroppers -

- a red Usha Fosty Micro with an Arabic Italic nib,

- a navy blue Charter "997" reground to a right oblique by US nibmeister Vivek Narayanan

(special thanks to Maja for gifting these at Christmas)

Also included with the 2 pens will be a pipette for filling and 2 ink samples to fill them with - 5ml each of FPN inks Van Gogh Starry Night Blue and Dumas Tulipe Noir.

As my first 2 PIFs (last year) went to 2 very new FPNers and were consequently never heard from again..... I'd like these to go to someone with a little time in

- an FPN member for at least 6 month, with at least 10 posts,

- have the ability to post writing samples once you've received and inked them, (show us your stuff!)

- follow this PIF up with one of your own.

I'll leave this up for :hmm1: lets say, 5 days. I will random.org the entries on Wednesday morning and announce the winner!

PMs preferred.

Good luck to everyone!!! :P

ps - to clarify, both pens and inks are going to one winner - package deal.

Just wanted to remind everyone that I will be randomly selecting a winner in about 48 hours.

So far I have received 11 entries.

I am also including an ink sample and a loupe. It's all in the box and will go out first thing Monday morning. If you haven't entered yet, there's still time! thumbup.gif

Here's another PIF for newer FPN members.

Three Hero 616 pens (two standard, one jumbo/doctor). They were inked a couple times, and the nibs have been smoothed. I have already flushed them, so they will arrive empty. You will need bottled ink. If you don't already have a bottle of ink, I recommend buying from GouletPens.com (not affiliated, just a big fan and satisfied customer).

New PIF for the weekend!!

Pelikano Junior for a child - choice of Red or Blue!!

fpn_1361570174__pelikanojuniorred.jpg

So, members may apply for their own child or the child of a friend, please state the age of the child and where you live. I would say the pen is most suitable for the 5-10 age group.

I will leave this run a week. PM me if you would like to be considered.

I will post worldwide.

I numbered all of the entries as randomly as I could, then used random.org to select our winner: Number 3, Cyber6!

So excited... Is the Sheaffer Balance a big pen? I like big pens. :cloud9:

the sheaffer balance comes in several different sizes. by the looks of johnmetta's original post on pg 8 where he compares it to a pelikan m800, it would seem that the one he is PIFing is a junior or lady's balance. it is 4 3/4" (12 cm) long and if its a lady its slimmer than if its a junior. its a small pen, but a rather nice one.
