wo, didn't know Daiso was in the USA.

Yup, apparently they're starting to open stores all over the US. They have an online store as well for US customers, but the selection is limited and you have to buy stuff by the box instead of individual items... I hope we get a Daiso here.

Awesome! Thanks, Liyalla (and to those others who have also passed some things along)! To those who are wondering, I work for a program that funds kids who grew up in government care (foster homes, group homes, etc) to get a post-secondary education. I have been applying on every PIF I am eligible for (and a couple I wasn't; oops!) in order to have some stuff to pass along to these kids when they start their respective programs. It is a great program to work for, and I'm thrilled to be able to give some nice stuff away to some very deserving kids.

Thanks again!

Announcing: The Caveat Emptor Letter Month Lottery!

Okay, I guess I need to take a hint. I had hoped to finance a 1.5mm Italic nib for my M800 by selling my Shaeffer Balance journaling pen that I made in my im(but-not-so)famous post. So far, I've had three separate people offer to buy/trade this green and have to back down at the last minute (nothing against them, by the way, bad stuff happens).

So, because the universe is apparently telling me something (and because I'm just sort of tired of dealing with it), I'm going to take a page from the book of excellent books of people such as Cognaticrotty and give it away.

Here are some pictures of it, a couple next to my Pelikan M800 and my Cross Century II Chrome for size comparison. I don't have any writing samples because it's uninked. Also, strangely, it seems that the original post is gone from Greg's site, so I can't link to his samples or description.

As you can see, it is quite a lovely pen, (the pictures don't do justice to the beauty of the green) and I'm just ready for someone who'll appreciate it rather than have it just sit here unused.

People here seem to have rules for these giveaways, but they seem somewhat unenforceable so I'll call them preferences. I would prefer that interested parties:

- not have large collections of pens already.

- not have a similar Shaeffer Balance (I think it's from the 30s?)

- be interested in vintage pens (since, otherwise it would be a waste of time)

- most importantly: pass it on for free to another person if they don't like it. (Because it would be crappy if someone makes money off of this)

How to Enter:

As I said, it's a lottery. I want a hand written note (this is a fountain pen forum, after all- and it is Letter Month). I don't care what it says, or how long it is or what stationary it's written on. I would prefer that it's written with a fountain or dip pen, but I don't even require that– since it'd be awesome if this pen went to someone who doesn't actually own a fountain pen. You can send it to my office address, which I've provided below (Actually you can send it to my home address if you want, since I'm exceptionally Googlable, but my office will allow me to organize better, since home is "twin newborn craziness land").

Deadline? Interestingly enough, my one month anniversary on this forum is Valentine's day. That would be the day that I could list this pen for sale, so let's say that your note has to be postmarked by then. I will select the winner randomly from all the notes I get. If you live in the highlands of Kurdistan or even Yellowknife, Canada, we may have to talk about shipping costs. Nothing against Kurdistan or Yellowknife, I just don't feel like being out too much more money on this deal. In the US, I'll just cover the $6 for a flat-rate box.

Hope I'm not making too much of Pay It Forward, just thought I could at least get some fun notes out of the deal.

Cheers,

For those of us that are international and interested, when are you selecting the winner? I don't think regular post will make it there by the 14th. Unless I'm misunderstanding and you are drawing on the 14th.

VINTAGE PENS FOR SALE! Various brands all restored and ready to go! Check out the pics and let me know if you have any questions.

Johnmetta,

What a great pen to PIF! I'm a big fan of the vintage sheaffers  I already have quit a few so I will not enter. I will be sending you a letter since you posted your address...probably full of mispelded words and odd doodles. lol

Cogs...Thank you Sir, that was a very nice comment.

This is a fun PIF contest. I'm entering.

Do you want us to put our contact info on the letter? And if so, what would you like?
