... I never managed to get them working with the included cartridge (international standard small cartridge). With the converters, I had a weird adventure: after two days of normal operation and standing the pen nib-down in my pen cup when not in use, I took them out again after two days of not using them, and all the ink had run out of the converters and into the cap.

If I stand the pen nib-up there is no problem.

I have 3 different theories:

Try out flushing the pen with normal lukewarm water. You may have flushed them previously with ammonia/dish-wash-soap, traces of which are left behind.

Where do you live? ... more specifically is it a high altitude place?

High altitude = low pressure, which might have caused this.

What kind of ink are you using?

I bet this is the first question people will ask, but I guess the true reason is either of the first two.

Assuming the pen was filled at the same altitude it shouldn't make a difference. The problem could occur if it were filled at sea level then went somewhere every high, but I doubt it would be enough to empty the pen and fill the cap, just a few drops.

I plug things in, I push buttons, and I pick things up and put them down in different places. And when I have a chance I write things down!

Just received the inksamples Paperskater sent me, after having a really lousy exam day.

It brightened up a bad day.

I really want to thank you and your anonymous donor for the ink and unknowningly cheering me up.

Thanks,

Malice

I may be PiFing another 5 or 6 pens in the coming weeks. Need to set myself up financially for the LA Pen Show first though.

Congrats to all the recent PiF recipients. But even moreso, I think that a BIG "Thank You!" is also in order for those doing the PiF'ing! Y'all rock!

I live in Curaçao, a small island in the Caribbean. This time of year, the climate is just right for human beings... temperature 27C, humidity about 80%, sunny but not crazy. Not high altitude, in fact close to sea level.

I flushed the pen with tap water only and used a mixture of PR inks that I use in other pens. It is not particularly wet, nor particularly dry. I think the problem is probably that the seal on the converter is not good enough. Today after I thought I'd fixed the problem by storing the pen nib up, while I was writing it dumped the whole load of ink over my hands, table, and notes. Ugh. I'm back to a cartridge for the time being, although the cartridge has the opposite problem: hardly any flow...

Having seen the generosity abound in PIF, I'd love to join in.

I will be offering up a lightly used Noodler's Ahab Demonstrator.

The pen will have been completely rinsed, and only has minor surface wear.

I'm hoping for this pen to go to someone interested in testing flex pens, preferably for the first time.

All are eligible and will be entered and randomly selected using random.org.

You may enter for other people, however only one entry will be accepted per account.

Enter via PM, a winner will be chosen Sunday the 3rd of February at 10PM EST.

CONUS only please.

How wonderful! Thank you so much! I had to re-read my name to make sure it was me. It's Saturday morning here - such a lovely surprise to wake up to. :cloud9:

Thanks again to you and Russ, Thank you for your very generous gesture. I've been admiring old Sheaffer pens through FPN, and love the character the vintage pens have.

I'm about to have ACL Knee surgery after falling from a ladder- so will have lots of time to write!

And now, it is my turn! I have to inform you that i don't have many fancy or expensive pens but i have to give! So! Notes about this PIF!

1. Because of my economic situation, i can ship the pen inside EU. Sorry for the rest members, i have send some things to other ppl outside EU and i cannot afford extra fees. :( .

2. Because of the pen... i would like to participate (mainly) those who are new in fountain pens, but i will accept any other who likes to collect those pens.

3. The pen is a Jinhao X750 (check the photos). I is one of my first fountain pens and i think it is time to change home. The only problem that i have is that i never had a converter with that pen, i lost it and i never bought one new, otherwise the pen works fine. I used it 1.5 month before for the last time, noς it is stored and clean. I checked it again today and i cleaned it again. I will provide a universal cartridge too.

4. I will answer @ your pms by giving you a number. I will use a "randomizer" for those numbers to do the "dirty job".

5. You can send me pms until the end of Feb.3rd.

Good looking pen. I have a Jinhao X750 ("Shimmering Sands") and I think it is a GREAT writer. Whoever gets this will really enjoy it, I'm sure.

The Background:

With these other Pay It Forwards ending, I decided to start mine one day early. I will accept entrants starting immediately and will stop accepting entries, as of 11:59pm on February 1, 2013.

I like celebrating Celtic holidays, so this particular Pay It Forward coincides with the festival of Imbolc, which marks the beginning of spring. The pen looks a bit like an icicle, which is far more reminiscent of winter, here in the Northern Hemisphere. But, I like winter better than spring, so this pen shall be the object of desire (or not desire, if you dislike the look of the Pilot Penmanship. Really, though, what did it ever do to you to deserve your hatred? I digress...)

The Pen:

This Pay It Forward is for a Pilot Penmanship demonstrator with an extra-fine nib. This nib is really, really fine in width, and I find that they are very useful for taking notes, even on absorbent paper.

(My review of this pen can be found, here, with pictures.)

While it takes proprietary Pilot cartridges, the recipient will have the choice of either having several cartridges included or having this pen converted to an eyedropper-fill. In my opinion, ink looks fabulous while sloshing around the barrel, which can hold over 2mL.

The Who (no, not the band...):

For this Pay It Forward, I am looking for a high school or university student in the United States. (A future Pay It Forward will cover the international crowd.) If you meet this single criteria, send me a PM with the subject reading "Pilot Penmanship Pay It Forward 2013," and include the following information:

  • If a high school student, your favorite subject and your thoughts on a future college degree
  • If a university student, your current degree and whether or not you plan to get another one
  • Whether you like winter or spring better
  • Whether or not it snows, where you are located

So, to recap... to enter, you need to send me a PM with a specific subject and three pieces of information (unless you are both a high school and a university student, in which case, major props to you).

The End:

I will add your name to a list with a corresponding number and use a randomizer to choose someone on February 2, 2013. If you are the chosen recipient, I will PM you to get your address and your choice for cartridges or eyedropper-fill.

EDIT: Decided to link pictures directly into the post, because pictures are cool! Plus, these pictures show the Pilot Penmanship demonstrator being used as an eyedropper-fill and with cartridges.

EDIT 2: Larger versions of the pictures can be found at the above-linked review.

EDIT 3: Just a reminder to PM me, not to post a reply in this thread. Following instructions is part of being a good student. Editing your work is also a big part...I am done, now. Enjoy!

Thank you to all of you who entered my Pay It Forward!

There were fourteen entrants. Random.org has chosen the number thirteen. xHaishou, you are the recipient of the Pilot Penmanship Demonstrator, and I will be sending you a PM.

Wishing you all a happy Imbolc (which marks the beginning of spring).

Ground Hog Day Fountain Pen and Notebook Give-away!

I have three TWO Daiso 100 page lined notebooks ( 3.5" x 5.5" ) , two Frogs and one Panda. (Panda's off to Ryan). Each will come with a Pilot Varsity disposable fountain pen, which can be turned into an eyedropper pen when you run out of ink ( see topics here on FPN on how to do that )

Each notebook and fountain pen will be given to a student ( high school or college ) in the USA: first three to message me, first to win. ( Must not have received a give-away from me previously )

Message me with your name and address, school level and area of study, and what you plan to write in this wee little notebook.

Good Luck!
