Pay It Forward 2013

I shipped internationally to Canada and to the UK last week and it put a $6 chunk on my wallet for each pen. Definitely expensive, which is why I hate doing international shipping. Let me know how much it comes out to once you ship out. I'm interested as to how much i'd be spending if I PiF an ink.

I paid $8.50 to ship a pen to the UK midway through last year, but I didn't find that outrageous for transporting something all the way across the Atlantic. I'm sure other countries would be a little more. This one is just going across the State, so it should be reasonable. I don't think that the postage within the US has changed much, just international rates.

Drive it down! We've actually got loads of people in a Pen Posse in Atlanta, check out the chat in my signature for more info. Wish I was over there, I've only got two people near me I know are into FP's.

Is anyone else noticing background colors screwed up on this thread? The background is now dark green making the text difficult to read. This is the only thread which is like this for me. Other topics are fine.

I have the same problem. Apparently it's related to using the "Library" skin or theme. If you scroll down to the bottom of the page you will find a pull-down menu on the left hand side. Changing to another skin (eg. Vault) will clear things up.

Amgroma is spot on! Drive it down! I know we would all (hats included) love to see you. The next Atlanta ITP pen posse meeting isn't until the second half of Feberuary, but I'm sure invisiblehats wouldn't mind waiting (boy, am I mean or what?) ^_~

And of course, since I KNOW invisiblehats has been talking about how cool it would be to get a chance to try Yama Budo (for a good while now actually- hats really does like purples quite a bit!), I'm really happy that's who it went to! Of course, now I will bug hats for a sample too >=)

For people interested in repairs:

I would like to give these three pens to anyone who would like to take a shot at repairing them!

The first is a brown lever-filler. The clip reads Majestic and the nib reads Super-Pei Iridium. It appears that the nib may need some help (the tines do not seem to align properly or perhaps one is broken).

The second is a red and gray lever-filler. The clip reads Traveller's and the nib reads "Vis-A-Vac Velvet Touch 3760 USA." Bits of the cracked sack have escaped when the level fill moves, so it obviously need a sac replacement.

The last is a gray and black lever-filler. There is no brand name on the pen, but the lever and nib appear to be fine. The nib reads "Fifth Venue. "

Please PM me if you are interested!

Maggie

After receiving a good number of replies about the pens already, I have decided that I will choose winners tomorrow night (Wednesday, Jan. 30).

Originally I was planning to send off the pens together to someone to save on shipping. However, I would really like to give an opportunity to multiple people to repair.

There will also be a fourth winner picked to receive a new pen (never been inked). This pen's body doesn't screw on and the friction fit is finnicky.

I will be so pleased if you all can get these pens in working order!

Maggie

International shipping: I just shipped a few packages to the UK and didn't notice a big change in postage. As long as the package is under 4 lbs it is reasonable...over 4 lbs and it's crazy expensive!

Atlanta Pen Posse: If I ever make it to Atlanta for a meeting...it better be held in a good Ale House. LOL

I can't believe all of the activity on this PIF thread, you guys are AWSOME!!!

Last weeks PIF: all packages have been sent, let me know when you get em. Thanks!

This PIF is now closed, with the cartridges going to a new home.

Having won a couple of PIF items for two of my children in the last few months, this lot is intended fo go to a youngster. They don't necessarily need to be a member of FPN, members can apply on their behalf. I'd like these to go to someone under the age of 18, but I can only post to the UK and EU countries. On offer is

4 x Aurora Black cartridges

1 x Aurora Blue cartridge

2 x Lamy Blue cartridges

4 x Pilot Black cartridges

5 x Parker Quink Black cartridges

3 x unknown blue cartridges, believed to be long internationals

Please PM to enter, stating who the cartridges are intended for and why you/your nomination is a good home for them. Entries to be received by 17.00 GMT on 28th January.

OK, as there were no takers, I'm opening this one up to anyone worldwide.

Alrighty,

Tonight I have a PIF featuring a Noodlers Konrad fine nib semi flex. It writes well, but I just didnt care for it personally.

I will be picking a winner feb 1st by noon est.

Eligibility....anyone, anywhere. Tell me why you got in to fountain pens, and the coolest story you have experienced with them. Please note: the winner will be chosen by a random number generator, unless a truly inspirational story comes out of it all.

PM ME YOUR ENTRY

Ok, in honor of Russ's craziness generosity and trust in allowing me to have a test drive his MB 149 before giving it away, I've also got a few things to give away.

Russ might not have informed you, but he did give me a Sheaffer Feather Touch. Despite the fact that he GAVE me the pen, and it didn't suit me well, I thought it would be nice if someone who could appreciate it could enjoy it, as Russ certainly intended it to. It's green, and has a 14k gold nib.

Next up, this one is from my own stash. I've actually got a red Lamy abc that I got for EKE when he/she posted his/her daughter's pictures here. Seeing that he mentioned that the red Lamy abc was "her favourite pen", I thought I could put a smile on that beautiful girl's face by getting her what she wanted. But EKE declined the offer, and here I am with a Lamy abc for no one.

So, I guess here are the rules:

  1. For the Sheaffer Feather Touch: I'd like to give this to someone who hasn't had a chance this year to win anything from the PIF program. Although I wouldn't be checking, I just think it'll be nice if someone who hasn't a chance to win anything have it this time. I also think it'll be nice if people who hasn't had the chance yet to experience vintage American pens are able to own this pen, but I'd like to warn the prospective winner, that this pen is OLD, around 50+ years and counting, and they'll be able to appreciate the historical value of this pen.
  2. For the Lamy abc: I'd like to send this pen to a parent, or parents-to-be. It'll be nice if the child has a chance to learn how to write with a fountain pen, as this was an experience I've never had.

So I'll be posting pictures up soon, and I'll be picking the winners next week, on the 1st of February, at around 3pm CET.

Have fun, and continue sharing!

Thomas

Forgot: Send me a PM to enter, and state which pen you would like to win!

I'll be closing the list at 16:00 CET. So if there's anyone who still wants to take part, there's still time!

I've got one of these in a slightly different color.

http://static.jetpens.com/images/a/000/013/13065.jpg

It's never been inked. To tell the truth, I bought 3 of them, and 2 are in use. I never managed to get them working with the included cartridge (international standard small cartridge). With the converters, I had a weird adventure: after two days of normal operation and standing the pen nib-down in my pen cup when not in use, I took them out again after two days of not using them, and all the ink had run out of the converters and into the cap.

If I stand the pen nib-up there is no problem.

I'd like to give the third one to someone who will tell me how they fare with it, if or when they solve the problem of the cartridge or the ink running out of the converter. I had actually bought this pen to give away, so the condition of information sharing is the only addition.

I will leave this PIF up until Sunday evening, february 3rd, and around 8PM (Atlantic time) I will select a winner. PM me if you're interested, and tell me a little about how you plan to solve my puzzle. I will give the pen to the person who I think has the best chance of solving this. Because I am curious. And if it's something stupid like wrong cartridge type, I also want to know.

Have at it, people. I am all ears.

That's really weird. I've got two of these pens, one black and one in blue like your picture, and I've never had that problem. I've stored the pens in every way possible - nib up, nib down, sideways - and these pens are constantly tossed around in my bag as well when I take them with me. In one of the pens, I use the included Pilot cartridge, and simply refill the cartridge when they're out. In the other pen, I use a convertor that the seller included with my purchase. No leaks (yet!)

The only reason I could think of is that the nib/feeder isn't sitting tight enough in the pen, as they're just friction fit...? I do know that there's different versions of this pen, one that uses standard cartridges and one that uses only the proprietary Pilot ones. Anyways I hope you find a fix for this because the nibs on these pens are fun to write with, especially for its price!

The person to whom the Sheaffer Feather Touch would be going to is: pandabirdy1 !!!

And the Lamy abc would be going to: bmoline!

Please contact me ASAP with your shipping addresses!

Thanks Russ, for letting me give that Sheaffer out to someone who'd appreciate it more than I do!

Cheers, and a good weekend to all!
