Alternative Grip?

I've tried this alternate pen hold for a short time and find I don't have as much control to retrace a line, make loops or to vary the pressure I use to write such that my writing tends to be a little heavier. Has anyone who's had some experience with this pen hold notice the same things and/or been able to adjust to the same level of comfort they've had with their regular pen hold?

FYI: The first (left) grip is the original way of holding an oblique dip-pen holder. It's difficult to master because it forces you to use whole arm movements to write, as it's harder to move the pen with just your fingers.
