Two Unusual Bexleys

congrats, tutelman. by the way, you may find at some point that the titanium sheathing on the barrel will come loose and spin. unless you like it that way (i didn't), you can unscrew the blind cap (yes, it comes off), remove the titanium sheath, dab some glue onto the barrel, and reassemble the thing. it'll be a more or less permanent fix, though, so be sure you want to do it ;)

hi, tutelman, walang anuman! wink.gif

Hey my friend--I bought the titanium international size and found my newly purchased Parker International nib unit is a little bit longer than the nib it came with and I feel like it might be closing in the cap. Were you or anybody able to get a genuine duofold international nib unit into this pen? I got one with silver trim. :-) It goes into the pen but I can't seem to cap it. Thoughts? can I just drill out the cap a bit or something?

i haven't touched this pen in a while (i'm in the US for three months and the pen is back in manila) so i might not be remembering things too clearly, but in my best recollection, i didn't just swap nibs with a duofold international but rather the whole nib, feed, and section assembly. that might account for the perfect fit i got. (and then, of course, i i went back to the original nib, feed, and section, and swapped out the nibs, putting in a stipula 22 nib.)

Thanks! Yeah, I used the whole Duofold nib unit but when capping it I felt more resistence at the end of the thread that made me stop. I'll maybe try contacting Bexley or send it to a penmaker. Hope you have a good and safe stay!

congrats on these rare pens  are those piston fillers or using a converter?

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

thanks! i don't think they're truly rare--i still see judd perlson selling them now and then on ebay. they both use converters--which i don't mind at all. i like pistons too--my daily users are a 149 and an agatha christie--but pistons can break down; converters are handy and can be replaced cheaply ;)

I am waiting for one of those unusual bexleys from judd, I was wondering what converters it is using if you know by chance?

The plain black section with the JoWo nib will use a standard International converter. If you buy a Parker Duofold or Duofold International (for the smaller one) nib assembly it will use a Parker converter.

These pens were made with the thread pitch and diameter that Parker used on their pens.

I guess this falls into the better late than never category but, some time ago, I acquired one of the titanium-sheathed pens pictured above (although mine has red colored plastic). I knew it was made by Bexley, but there was some confusion as to whether these pens were commissioned by Mike Clifton (as noted on another board) or by Mike Conway.

Deciding to put the issue to rest, I emailed Howard Levy at Bexley. He let me know they were commissioned by Mike Conway.

And, if you make it to the Ohio Pen Show at the beginning of November, not only can you see the magnificent pens made by Bexley (a sponsor of the event), but also meet exhibitors Mike Conway and Mike Clifton.

I bought a Bexley very similar (or identical?) to yours some time ago.

I was told these were prototypes. What Bexley did was actually use the same resin that was used for the Parker Duofolds, both blue, and red.

I also have the blue one (but no picture at the moment)

If you compare with this photo you can see that the resin is the same (these two in the photo are Centennials).

I also have another Bexley which looks extremely similar and to my knowledge is a Classique in grey marbled

so I believe the red and blue marbled prototypes are Classique model prototypes.
