Actually, I recommend this straight up. I use one of the syringes (like you get from inksellers -- goulet, isellpens, etc) and just fill a sample vial.

 

I do the filling out of that so I can just go back for another dip and never have to worry about contaminating the main bottle if I didn't get my feed perfectly clean. I switch colors a lot and using a lever fill or something like that is almost guaranteed to squirt something back into the filling container, so it's safer for me.

According to J. Herbin and their US distributor, the original formula is back, though I haven't gotten a new bottle to confirm this yet.

Goulet Pen's Newletter has the re-reformulated Rouge Hematite in stock.

Not entirely sure what this formulation means. May have to try a bottle.

Todd, from iSellPens, also said that he had the new Rouge Hematite in stock supposedly via my email to him. He seems to have the lowest prices so far on it if anyone is intersted. (Not affiliated with isellpens)

So I supposedly ordered the third formulation of J. Herbin's Rouge Hematite but... It looks like the second formulation to me. There's nice shading from pinkish red to red but no golden sheen...

Edit: Huh.... I wrote some more with it and every few words, you can see gold.... This is pretty cool!!!

The re-release of the old formula is technically the fourth, as there was the original (of which I have a bottle), the second version with about half of the golden goodness missing (have one of these too), and the third is the version with no sheen at all (I only have a sample of this). I say buy a new bottle to get the gooooooooooooold…

I actually got the gold! It's the newest formulation. The problem is the sheen doesn't show up in any of my papers that normally show sheen but for some reason shows up in my journal which has never showed sheen before....

the third revision of the ink will still sheen but the ink when written has to "pool" up for it to sheen and you still need to shake up that bottle probably...

Just ordered a bottle through Amazon, and it arrived today --gold flecks and all. And yes, it did have a plastic shrink-wrap coating with "warning" stickers about using it with dip pens, and not letting it sit in a fountain pen for too long.

 

And it is a GREAT color. Brings tears to the eyes...

Here's what I have under the lights of my desk lamp. The gold seems only to show up on smoother, higher quality paper. On spongy cheap paper, almost not at all. I believe I have the newest iteration of the formula, with plenty of gold sheen --under the right circumstances! The closeup shows the variation in color fairly well:

Hmm... that's interesting because the original version would sheen even the expensive recycled stuff.
