Pentel Graphgear 500 - Broken!

Hi to all who are reading this! For my thirteenth birthday, I received a Pentel Graphgear 500, a Staedtler 925 05, a Pentel Graphgear 1000, and many other drafting pencils. Among them all, I liked the Pentel Graphgear 500 the best, with its heaviness at the tip, and its diamond grip.

So today I decided to wash it, it was a little greasy. So I took the tip, barrel, eraser, and top apart. I cleaned the tip, barrel, and metal top with dishwashing liquid. Then I set it out to dry, taking an cotton swab and cleaned out the barrel.

After an hour and a half, I put it back together, put new lead in it, and tried to use it. It was broken, I checked to see if lead was jammed in the tip, I used the metal rod to push of any excess broken lead, and tried again, and it didn't work. I put the lead one by one trying to see if I just overloaded it, but no it didn't work.

I don't know if I lost a part or something, but I seem to have all major parts, so if you have any suggestions/help I greatly appreciated. Remember all suggestions are appreciated, and I really don't want to buy a new one, I really like this one, and only this one.

Well, I too have the graph gear 500 0.7 pentel silver chrome. Question is why you disassembled it, I know, I know, a fountain pen you must do it, but the mechanical pencil does not work with ink, so for all I know you just have to clean the surface with amonia or simmichrome polish and thats all, any way I wish you to try again to find the lost piece.

There is a clutch that pushes the lead out when you depress the button. Take the metal tip off again and press the button. Does the clutch open up?

It's also possible that you bent the lead sleeve (the very tip). Can you push a piece of lead all the way through it?

Yes, thank you for your suggestions. I will try cleaning it with ammonia, thank you for both replies. And no the tip is not bent but thank you for suggesting to push the lead through. I think it cleaned out the lead dust buildup. Thank you so much - your replies helped a lot.
