Platignum No. 5 Studio Review

I'm not sure how well it would work with a Platignum but I know some people with Parker FPs who syringe fill the cartridges with bottled ink......

 

I did that for years as an impoverished student. After the first few weeks it becomes second nature, and you start to admire the ink stains on everything you own.

 

I am not fond of cartridges (plain blue and black are SO boring) and am looking forward to trying this pen with wetter ink!

 

There are loads of interesting cartridges in international standard format to try from Diamine and Pelikan (to name a couple).

 

I have the Monteverde mini converter and have not managed to get it to stay attached to a single pen with international standard fitting.

 

The nipple profile is completely different from that on a standard international cartridge.

 

Thanks John - I read somewhere (Executive Pens or J Pennifeather) that Pelikan cartridges seem to fit. So may try some of them so I can use red ink in the Studio and a Monteverde mini converter as suggested by the Goulets.

 

Pelikan cartridges are definitely international standard pattern.

Hmm, I was about to order a bunch of these mini converters but for some Platignum Studios I'm getting in a few weeks' time, but now I'm worried they might not fit. I've e-mailed Gouletpens.com for confirmation, but in the meantime, did you try your minis in a Platignum Studio?

I saw this and realized that I had not tried out the mini-converter I brought back from the States in my Platignum pen as I had promised. A great excuse to try this out with my new ink I just bought this week from Akkerman in Den Haag! The result so far is that the converter does fit nice and snug and does not appear to want to come away from the pen easily. I will say that this converter is very small and does not hold much ink. The converters are not expensive and so paired with the inexpensive Platignum pens they become a nice set. The pen is a very smooth writer and has a nice ink flow - not too dry, not too wet.

Thanks! Some friends are visiting the UK later this month and they'll bring me basically the whole Studio collection, so I ordered a bunch of mini converters from Goulet's - plus the orange Studio that Amazon.co.uk didn't have in stock.

 

Your post gave me peace of mind about the purchase - I was afraid the minis would be a loose fit.

 

Having said that, have you tried any other std. intl. converters with your pen?

Pity to hear that the rubber section doesn't last, was thinking of getting this to add to my fledging collection since it's inexpensive and I like "cushioned" grips since I grip my pens too hard out of habit.
