Harrods Fine Writing Department

Drop it and move on: it was a couple of friggin pictures at Harrods, which is more akin to a museum than a store.

I totally agree.

This was my post originally and all I wished to do is share 3 photos from a lunchtime trip to a store. I have to say, the stupidity of the debate that has followed has put me off FPN.

I guess there's no accounting for taste. I found the off-topic posts far more interesting than the discussion of a department store.

Mike.

Thanks for posting your photos, particularly the general view of the store. The images are interesting because I have never yet set foot across H's threshold and I was curious whether their store is markedly different to other pen shops I have seen for myself.

I wish I had the sort of funds required to shop there, but then if I had the money, I would probably seek out the same pens at a lower price elsewhere! Besides, I would be anxious that the staff might look at me and realise somehow in an instant that I am not loaded enough to buy any of their pens.

Perhaps, Mike, you should come and join us in the forest. ;)

Back on topic, that Limited Edition Dragon pen was tacky.

Back on topic, that Limited Edition Dragon pen was tacky.

Not only that, it must be a devil to get it into a shirt pocket, pen case or any other pen carrier .... especially with that chunky square end to the body ;)

Is it meant to be loaded with lighter fluid instead of ink, to get a nice flame?

Although its true they had many of the more...exotic pens, to cater for the very rich or barking mad, they also had a range or more 'normal' pens. In the MB section you could select a 146, or there were pens from Cross and some of the Montegrappa's were affordable. In truth though, if you wanted a more expensive pen there are plenty of shops in London that could give you as good a service I guess, but at more reasonable prices.

To be fair to Harrods, many, many of their other goods are comparable to other stores and it is a department store with almost everything under one roof. As a day out (and you need a day!), its spectacular and the food hall is word famous. Would I buy a pen there? Nah. Would I eat there? Hell yes!

This appears to have run it's course and folks have been a bit snippy at each other. Personal attacks are not allowed on FPN, some posts were invisibled and this thread is locked.
