Does Harrods have a posted "No Photos" policy?

Oh yes

Then why the heck was Mike taking pictures?

Who cares about their policy. They should be honoured (sic) to have customers, not the other way around.

In that case they should have confiscated his camera, cellphone, or whatever he took the pictures with.

If the store policy is "No Photos" then don't take photos!

If you want to take in-store photographs, go to a store that does not object to you taking photographs in their store.

It is just that simple.

Who cares about what you think? If you don't like the photos, go to another thread. So damn simple.

Would it be an increase of the honour that the photos are in colour? Perhaps they labour under the misapprehension that they work in a theatre, and fear flashes.

Yep. I love the non-Websterian spelling, I does.

This simple thread with some pretty pictures sure has generated a lot of heat. Let's be nice to each other, we're all on the same 'team' here. :ninja:

For this same reason people post posts they know are against the rules.

Because they know it's better in some cases to beg forgiveness than to ask permission. ;)

Does anyone know why all the eBay sniping screeds from my politician's religious leader, which were written and photographed at Harrods, keeping getting removed from the anti-Baystate Blue thread? Or is it against the rules to ask? :ninja:

They were all moved to the Lamy forum with the kilts and Armadillos.

There used to be a shop in Tottenham - North London - that was called 'Arrods.

It sold mostly cheap junk, carrying on the tradition of the more up market store in an even seedier part of London ...

You may laugh, but we have more fun in the Lamy forum. It's more no-holds-barred.

I once bought some 12-bore shotgun cartridges in Harrods, for Christmas presents for the lads. At the time, the price was equivalent to 50p a bang.

Is this too off-post? Based on some of the earlier comments, I don't think so.

I'd rather get my ink from somewhere else though and certainly wouldn't entertain getting a pen from there. In fact, the nearest I've been to the Al-Fayeds was seeing the old man in the crowd at Old Trafford; Manchester United against Fulham in the FA Cup. Fulham deservedly lost. Good.

Most of the pens in there were far too ostentatiously 'blingy' for me to entertain.

I think maybe the pictures explain why my local department store pen section looks the way it does... :hmm1: aws

It used to be a lovely place to shop, and was very busy, with excellent staff, that knew their job, now I don't know about the staff...as whenever I am in there, there are none to be found....the display cases look like they cost £1000's

.......as do the pens... :( Maybe they do make some sales....I've never seen one....but then....I don't visit as often as I did....

About 90 miles now, I'd guess but in those days, about seven. And from where I worked for a long time, about four. Two of the best games I saw there were against Real Madrid and Benfica in 67/68 season.

Harrods struck me as middle to upper middle class and perhaps lower upper class in too much of a Hurry to do proper shopping....

Real good name leather shoes, name jewelry/watches, nice veneered wood classic style furniture, but not full wood, not bespoke shoes or cloths.

Only the second best Fudge in London though the lady at Harrods told me where to go to get the best.

Alas...I had to make the choice between that and Purdey's  :puddle: :cloud9: ...even if I did not buy. :headsmack:

Purdey's, Boss** or Holland and Holland is Art.Absolute perfection of master craftsmen in form and function. I won't rave about the 'standard' engraving. Pen engraving is so primitive compared to that, so is money engraving.

I will rave about the 15,000 pound wooden stock...just the stock, not the forearm....the best walnuts in the world aged 70 years, and polished in an old fashioned way, that looked two inches deep....and as I looked at just the stock on that shotgun....it was worth every cent of the 15,000 pounds. Shotguns from 70,000 pounds and up. Quite inexpensive for the work.

A shotgun must be fitted to you and the game.

A man at Harrods gave me the address to Purdey's.

**Boss of London was making Art, long before that guy found out in 1964 folks would pay big bucks to wear his advertising for free on over priced T-Shirts and suits.

In reference to P. T. Barnum; to advise for free is foolish, ........busybodies are ill liked by both factions.

Ransom Bucket cost me many of my pictures taken by a poor camera that was finally tossed. Luckily, the Chicken Scratch pictures also vanished.

The cheapest lessons are from those who learned expensive lessons. Ignorance is best for learning expensive lessons.

Some of them explode with a bang - especially the 12-bore barrelled ones ... Maybe ink-bombs might have worked better ??

Society runs on rules, whether you agree with those rules or not.

You may support people who choose to break rules just for the fun it (or the admiration of others), but I don't.

Your vehement expression of your values does not change mine.

It is that simple.

I don't see it as a valid argument to equate a corporate procedure of Harrods much more likely to do with preventing a competitor from photographing Harrods store layouts to some rule of law which the enforcement of is necessary to maintain social order.

They're not the same gravity as, nor indicative of each other, nor relevant to the same discussion.

This is not a "legal" issue.

The issue is "following rules" whether you agree with them or not, and the individual choosing which rules they follow or not.

Harrods may have a rule against Customers wearing red hats in their stores.

Does it make sense? Probably not.

Is it their store and hence their rules? Unless it violates one of your legal rights and/or privileges, Yes.

Would it cost them Customers? Probably.

If you insist on wearing a red hat don't go into Harrods!

If you don't like someone's (maybe silly) rules, don't play!

But you don't get to break their rules.
