Pelikan Edelstein Onyx

Here's my review of Pelikan's Edelstein Onyx ink. All in all not a bad ink, can't say it's my favorite and I don't know if I'd be willing to pay the premium for the ink, but I can see why some people might.

Here's my water resistance test. For this I wrote on a small Rhodia pad and after letting the ink dry for several minutes soaked it in water for several seconds.

Good review. When I've wanted to use a black, the Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Black has done it for me. Similar sort-of water resistance too. I've only the one Edelstein ink the Tanzarite. That's a great blue-black and keeps its blue a bit better than my favourite 4001. However, I'll not be getting any more of the more expensive range just yet.

Interesting ink from Pelikan, thanks for sharing

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

When using black I prefer to use a nono-carbon ink, so in my eyes, this looks like a wonderful GRAY ink.

I admit that I'm re-animating a rather old thread here but...

I recently ran some Edelstein Onyx through my 1954 Pelikan 400.

That pen is very 'wet'-writing - far more so than my modern (1990s-onwards) Pelikans are. It makes lots of inks feather and spread on lots of papers. And e.g. it lays down Pelikan 4001 Blue-black 'wetly'-enough that it makes that ink oxidize to fully black.

Anyway, on Rhodia, Oxford Optik, and Clairefontaine papers, Edelstein Onyx comes out of my 400 as a very dark, somewhat shiny-on-the-page, solid black ink, and it still has good narrow lines.

That 'shininess' makes it appear to be more-black than my Sailor Kiwa Guro 'nano'-particle carbon black does.
