Hi all - I hope it's ok to post this hear. I found a set of Cross pens, a fountain and lead pencil, and was curious if they had any value. The case says 14 kt filled, and lifetime guarantee and they still work well. I believe this set is from the 60's - 70's. Thank you for any feedback:

A quick check on eBay completed listings shows these pen/pencil sets going for between $19.99 and $79.99. The latter is an out-lier, most of the prices were in the $20 and $30 range. The price you get will depend on timing, condition and whether you have the original box.

i bought two identical ones for about 10 usd. They are nice, slender pens, but i`m not passionate about them(since they`re not fountain pens), especially since i understand they don`t use standard refills, nor are they easy to take apart. But, i believe they do stand out from the crowd as far as ballpoints go :)

Thank you for the replies, I had no idea where to begin. I looked on ebay but wasn't sure if mine was similar, I guess they are. Theyre in good condition as is the case...thanks again.

Hate to ressurect a dead thread, but I collect very little that isn't made by Cross. Their refills are easy enough to come by. Pens just pull to seperate. At the top, just unscrew the refill, remove, and slide the new one in, and tighten. Slide the top of the pen back on. They aren't hard to maintain. Refills can be found at most good Office stores and directly from www.cross.com ... Oh, and new, those pens sell from Cross at $130.00 If you picked that pen up for less than about $30 it looks like you made out like a bandit.

I need to jump in here because so far the answers have been terrible.  How much is a Cross Pen worth?  It totally depends on which one.  They range in price from around $50.00 on up into the Thousands.  Yes if you look on eBay you will find a lot of the cheaper used Cross pens which you could buy cheaper, just remember some of them don't even work, and most used pens need new refills at the very least.  NEW, a Cross Pen should start at about $20.00 for the Bailey Lite pens, to $7,350.00 for the set of 18k solid gold Classic Century Pen/Pencil.  The best selling pen for the longest time is the Classic Century 14k Gold filled set that goes for $357.00 for the pair.  But on eBay you can find a nice used set for much less.  They have very nice sets that go for just under 1,000.00 for the Lapis Lazuli, or Japanese Cherry Blossom Pen.  If it's for a lady they have ladies sets for under $100, or if it's for a man, I would recommend a Cross Townsend which a little more girth around the pen for bigger hands.  It all depends on what you want.  They have all kinds in every price range for every kind of person.  If you like a certain color, they have those too.  Look on eBay and get yourself a deal.  Cross is very classy, and meant for the sophisticated user. :)

Okay, JerrysPens, you seem to be new so I'll cut you some slack.  But you're responding to a thread that has been dormant for over eight years at this point.  The OP posted links which I'm presuming are long dead and which were probably related to SPECIFIC Cross pens.

I have a couple of Cross Solos, a Cross Verve, and a Penatia (apparently a Chinese-made Cross sub brand.

The Solos are nice writers (I was just thinking this morning that I might consider looking for one in a different color -- I have a red one with an F nib (bought from the estate of a friend) and a bright blue one with a B nib (picked up at a pen show a couple of years ago) -- but I wouldn't call them "classy".  Not by any stretch of the imagination.  The Verve?  Ehhhh.  I keep meaning to try it out again to see if I can hold it high enough on the section to keep ink from getting all over my hands (let's just say I'm glad I only paid a buck for it).  The Penatia?  It's not a bad writer, but the barrel is too short for International Standard long cartridges, so writing with it is a bit awkward; plus I have to figure out how to glue the rubber or plastic cap band back onto the cap....

Oh, and THIS "sophisticated user" wouldn't trade my Plum Demi 1949 Parker 51 for all four of the pens combined....  Just sayin'.....  So kindly do not patronize other posters, or sound as if you're an advertiser.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."
