Can A Man Use Yama Budo?

Ok, after reading over the responses I have decided that the ink is too feminine to use in my pens. I'll just use it to dye my underwear instead.

If you take the right pen and carry it in your trouser pockets you can have both...

"Say, is that a Senior Maxima or are you just happy to see me?"

Oh, the list could go on. Kudos to the OP for taking this all in good fun.

You've missed my point.

I don't even remember your post and didn't have it specifically in mind when I responded. I've seen this argument several times, and I had a comment about the vacuousness of the argument. If it's your argument, fine. If it's not your argument, fine again.

However, to address the synopsis of your point, it matters to the OP, apparently, and it makes sense to me that it matters to him. I don't hear people making fun of Sandy for pointing out the obvious truth that the way people in general perceive a handwritten communication is affected by ink color.

I'm certainly not making fun of the OP. I'm annoyed that it has to be a question, that's all. I'm annoyed with all the stupid divisiveness in the world today. I'm at my wit's end with it. I'm sorry if it seemed I was adding to it, here. It SHOULD be a vacuous argument either way. The OP shouldn't have to worry. That he does is not anything wrong with him but something wrong with a world in which people give a dang about what color shirt one wears or ink one uses. It brings to mind when I was very poor and had five dresses to my name and worked at a job that required dresses at the offices. When I wore one of the white dresses after Labor Day I was thrashed by a co-worker. "I don't care how much money you have, you can afford not to wear white after Labor day." This wasn't the 50s, this was the late 80s. I told her if it meant not feeding my child for a week, the no, I couldn't. But that's the kind of stupid thinking this "don't use pink ink" reminds me of. So it set me off. That's all.

I don't see Sandy's "impressions" in writing the same as "if I use pink ink will people make fun of me." One is about traditions in communication and perception of maturity, the other is about gender stereotyping. But that's my opinion. You don't have to agree with me. No doubt, you don't.

I wrote something here, but upon reflection I decided I'd rather not say anything further on this topic.

I guess a little pink tinge in ink (Yes, Yama Budo looks magenta to me) should never affect one's manhood but since you said you are palatially color blind, so I suppose you just want an Iroshizuku ink (for the nice flow/no feather etc.) in the shade of purple. To me, Murasaki Shikibu just seems a little less fancy/more daily ...

Since I like to match my pen with ink, I might giggle a little I see a macho man using Yama Budo with the Sailor Hello Kitty (with berry pink barrel)...just a little.

It's just a color. If I'm a painter, and I use pale magenta in my paintings, does that make me effeminate? I think not!

I say go for it!

Well, dude, there's two ways you can look at it, as far as I can tell. You can:

1) see it as less than masculine

OR

2) see it as your "I LOVE BOOBIES!!1!!11!!!" breast cancer support ink.

I don't know about you, but if I were a straight dude and wanting the world to know, I'd be all kinds of loud about loving and supporting some boobies.

I'm not familiar with the people around you, nor your relationships with them, so I can't give you any definitive advice. In my experience using Yama Budo wouldn't make any difference: the people (if any) who want to bully and laugh at you will find a reason to do so no matter what you do.

A REAL MAN is confident in his manhood and can use any color of ink he pleases.

+1 to that!

After all, being a man doesn't have to do with the kind of ink he uses to write with...

I think the reason for the sarcastic posts is that the OP already knows that purple is generally regarded as feminine color, and there will always be someone who will give him funny looks if he uses the ink.

With that being said, if you don't mind the funny looks and people silently judging you, it is a nice color. And hey, its not like its baby pink.

Purple is effeminate?! The color of emperors, of popes, of royalty?

Who the heck is making up these silly "rules"? :gaah: And why do "they" think we care what "they" think?! :bunny01:

+1 I use purple, when ever I feel like it.

Or Orange, Yellow, Red, Pink, Green, Chartreuse, WHATEVER strikes my fancy at the time, as long as it's not a legal requirement to use as certain color for some reason.

+1 to both above I love purple and in no way see it as gender specific.

I don't think YB is the shade of purple of royalty, etc.

Funny -- if a woman uses pink ink, she isn't taken seriously; if a man does, well that knocks people's expectations around, doesn't it? They take him more seriously. Unless they beat him up on the playground. And he kicks their butts, and then they take him seriously.

Generally, generally.

Yes, this is true. I like pinks, magentas, burgundies, and violets. No one has dared laugh at me for years and the last time I had any trouble with a bully was 45 years ago when my only option was to break a few of his bones.
